All this month I'll be reviewing different comic books by female creators, based on submissions from the actual creators of the comic books themselves. Here's a list of all the books featured so far this month.

We continue with Fallen Ash #1, written by Kimberly Smith and drawn by Benjamin Bartolome with colors by Samantha Gungon

The comic opens with a striking action sequence featuring our hero, Ash, as he fights some scary beasts (Bartolome does an awesome job with this opening action scene)...

The issue then quickly switches to Ash's home, where we learn that his absence is a matter of great controversy. I love how Smith opens up the following transition with a piece of fourth wall breakage...

Smith plays it mysterious with what the actual situation is back at home and why Ash's absence is quite such a big deal but it is quite clear that what we have here is a deal where people used to others following their orders to the letter are having problems dealing with someone who actually dares to "question the answers"...

It is an interesting set-up for future issues, although I think for a first issue I would have preferred if the stakes of Ash's absence were made a bit clearer.

Still, it was an intriguing first issue with very good artwork, so I'll be reading to see what happens next.
