All this month I’ll be reviewing different comic books with LGBT themes (LGBT standing for “Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender”), based on submissions from the actual creators of the comic books themselves. Here is an archive of the comics featured so far!
Awhile back, I reviewed the first issue of Alex Woolfson, Vitto and Vincent Lee’s Tough, where a teenager is forced to stand up to his friends when they want to attack an older gay teen. Today, I’m taking a look at the next issue, where we see what happens when the two teens go home together to play video games together. The painted cover is by Winona Nelson.
So, at the end of the last issue, the protagonist, Mike, agrees to go home with Rob, to play video games and drink hard lemonade. Mike specifically says “no gay stuff,” but obviously, he is giving off signals that he really does not believe that.
This issue, then, is the slow give and take of Rob seducing Mike. “Seducing” is probably a bit of a loaded term, as clearly, Mike is totally cool with what goes down – he just needs Rob to get to that point in a way where Mike can feel like he’s not easy.
Woolfson handles that transition really nicely, and the expressiveness of Vitto’s pencils help greatly to convey the attitudes of Mike and Rob as things get steamier.
Here’s a few sample pages…
Really, there’s not a whole lot to say about this issue. You can tell from the sample pages exactly what’s going on – it’s an issue-long seduction. If you’re into that, then this is a really well told version of it. If you’re not, then you probably won’t dig this issue.
You can buy this issue here (there’s a bunch more preview pages, also).
