All this month I'll be reviewing different comic books with LGBT themes (LGBT standing for "Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender"), based on submissions from the actual creators of the comic books themselves. Here is an archive of the comics featured so far!

Today we take a look at Jeremy Owen's offbeat geeky spin on the concept of a pin-up book, Burly.

This is a bit of an odd selection for a month of LGBT comics because it is a pin-up book, not an actual narrative, but eh, it's a cute book, and I know Owen is almost sold out of copies of the book, so I'd hate to let the review copy he sent me go to waste, so ta da!!

The concept of the book is quite simple. It is a pin-up book of big, burly guys, but instead of showing them in the traditional pin-ups that guys like that get drawn in (firemen, police officers, etc.), Owen has decided to draw them all in geeky poses.

It's a very cute collection of pin-ups. Here are two sample pin-ups...

Amusingly, one of the stereotypical pin-ups would be a mechanic, and Owen makes the centerfold of the book BE a mechanic, but it is specifically a STEAMPUNK mechanic. I thought that that was clever.

Anyhow, yeah...it is a pin-up book. I think you can tell by the sample pages if it is something that you'd be interested in or not.

Check out Owen's site here to see a preview with small details of each pin-up, plus a chance for you to buy one of the few copies left of Burly!
