All month-long we'll be featuring top five lists about either the Avengers or the X-Men. Here is an archive of all the past top five lists!

In this installment, we'll look at the writers who have written the most issues of Avengers (Avengers in this instance being Avengers, West Coast Avengers, New Avengers and Mighty Avengers plus their respective Annuals).

Enjoy!

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Bob Harras JUST missed the top five. He wrote the Avengers for a little over 50 issues.

5. Kurt Busiek

Busiek wrote the Avengers for a little over 50 issues, as well, just a little further past 50 than Harras. That's not giving Busiek credit for Avengers Forever. If I did, he actually wouldn't be any higher on the list but he'd have a bigger lead over Harras.

4. Roger Stern

Stern wrote the Avengers for roughly 60 issues. His total would rise, as well, if you included Avengers Forever (but not enough to make the top 3).

3. Steve Englehart

Englehart wrote the Avengers, between his first stint and his West Coast Avengers stint, for a little under 90 issues.

2. Roy Thomas

Thomas wrote the Avengers, between his first stint and his West Coast Avengers stint, for a little under 120 issues.

1. Brian Michael Bendis

Bendis wrote the Avengers for 3,503 issues. Or something like that. He wrote New Avengers for 25 issues and then wrote New Avengers AND Mighty Avengers a dozen or so issues and then wrote New Avengers and Dark Avengers for a dozen or so issues. Then he wrote New Avengers and Avengers for 34 issues apiece. Plus Annuals and his initial four-issue stint on Avengers Disassembled and he has this one locked up tight.
