Every day this month I'm going to feature the work of a great artist, only instead of me picking the artist to feature, they will be picked by their peers, fellow professional comic book artists who are picking out artists (from the past and present) who they think deserve special attention. Do note that most artists I asked about this gave me multiple answers and I picked out one choice out of a number of suggestions, so these are not definitive answers, like "Artist X likes Artist Y and he thinks all other Artists are terrible!" Here is an archive of the artists featured so far!

Today, we have the pick of Tony Moore, who has been working in comics for a number of years, most prominently being the original artist on The Walking Dead and co-creating Exterminators for Vertigo and Fear Agent for Dark Horse. Currently, he's drawing an arc on Ghost Rider. Here's his website.

Tony's pick is Chris Samnee.

Chris Samnee broke into comics doing work for Oni Press, including Capote in Kansas with Ande Parks and an arc on Queen and Country.

Here's a story he did for Boom! Studios' Pulp Stories...

Here's a more recent series Samnee did for Marvel MAX, about the Devil-Slayer...

Just recently, Samnee was announced as the new ongoing artist for DC Comics' The Mighty...

As you can see, Samnee's style is very similar to that of Michael Lark, in that quite a bit of his work is based on shading and implied lines - it's really quite brilliant.

His work with shadows is never more evident than in his black and white work, like these sketches...

He's a truly fabulous artist, and it's great to see him getting consistent work from Marvel and DC.

Check out more great sketches at his website here.

Thanks to Tony for the pick!
