Back before the era of superheroes, comic books were populated by monsters. Marvel had a huge array of terrifying beasts to their name, but over time these creatures were brought into a changing universe; one with men of iron, witches, Mutants, and Inhumans.

Another surprising element of Marvel's history is that Godzilla, the King of Monsters, was once a part of their expanding universe. While Godzilla is no longer a member of the Marvel roster, there's a number of beasts who are still part of the company's legacy, which could certainly rival Godzilla when it comes to that King of Monsters title, despite his surprising, impressive, and weird powers.

10 Leviathon Mother

Leviathon Mother Marvel

Earth was in grave danger when a huge hoard of monsters was set to completely destroy it, much like they had with so many other planets. A group of beasts known as the Leviathons went from planet to planet, preparing them for the arrival of the mother.

The Leviathon Mother was a huge and monstrous creature, that certainly looks like a former enemy of Godzilla. If its many eyes and legs weren't enough, then its vicious teeth and dangerous claws would certainly give her the advantage in battle.

9 The Hulk

Immortal Hulk fighting the Thing in Marvel Comics

Bruce Banner has changed and evolved a lot since he originally became The Hulk. It's hard to argue against the fact that he is still considered a bit of a monster though, despite the scientist seemingly having the Green Goliath under control.

While he can't match up to him in size, if Hulk came across Godzilla today he'd definitely have a good chance of defeating the beast. His high leap, impressive strength, and seemingly endless rage will power this almost invulnerable monster to victory.

8 Devil Dinosaur

Devil Dinosaur

Devil Dinosaur may be pretty harmless to most humans now that he's in the careful care of Moon Girl, but back in the day and indeed when he is particularly angered, Devil Dinosaur really could have been a rival to Godzilla.

He is slightly smaller than the beast, but there was once a comic story that actually saw these two powerful creatures face off against one another. With Moon Girl now in his corner, the rematch might see Devil Dinosaur come out as victorious in the battle of the beasts.

7 Groot

Groot Marvel

Groot may be considered to be one of the most adorable creatures in the Marvel Universe today, but back in the early days of Marvel Comics, a version of Groot was actually presented as a monster! This was before even his time with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Groot was depicted as much larger and bulkier. He still had his trademark tree-like design, but the character had very little resemblance to the modern Groot in terms of his personality. The character was far from kind and caring, with only his anger at humanity being presented on the page.

6 Giganto

Giganto Fantastic Four

Fans may remember the cover of the very first issue of the Fantastic Four. With the original run perhaps being one of the greatest, the team was established against this huge beast controlled by the Mole Man, known as Giganto.

That cover featured Giganto pushing through the street and grabbing the Invisible Woman. This huge beast of course wasn't a match for any iteration of the FF since its debut, but its sheer size and strength alone meant it might have been a good rival to the King of Monsters.

5 Tricephalous

Tricephalous Marvel

The Tricephalous is a three-headed beast that was also controlled by the Mole Man and has faced the Fantastic Four on numerous occasions. It has also stood toe-to-toe with other monsters, such as the Incredible Hulk.

He's been experimented on by Roxxon and controlled by the Skrulls in the past, but he just keeps coming back stronger than ever. With flight, a fiery breath, and unbelievable scale, it's no wonder so many are scared of this monstrous beast.

4 Fin Fang Foom

Fin Fang Foom possesses a quality that so few other monsters have. He is perhaps one of the smartest monsters in all of the Marvel Universe. He is so smart in fact that he once teamed up with the Mandarin to take on Iron Man, before forcing the long time enemies to work together, as Foom and the other dragons managed to hoodwink them both!

Indeed, Stark would need specialist armor to take on such a mighty beast, as this dragon combines all the abilities that would be assumed of his species, alongside a brain that has created tactical plays that might even bring down Godzilla!

3 Goom

Goom Marvel

Goom is actually a huge and dangerous alien creature, supposedly from Planet X. Where Foom may be the smartest of the monsters, the same cannot be said for this beast. He is capable of basic ploys that have tricked humanity but is more of a hulking brute than a thinker.

He does have a number of abilities that make him increasingly dangerous though. As if his size and power weren't enough, he also has telekinetic skills, allowing him to move things with his mind!

2 It, The Living Colossus

It, The Living Colossus Marvel

It, the Living Colossus may have been defeated by Fin Fang Foom, but he is strong enough in the first place to face such an alpha monster. It is a monstrosity of a creature, towering above cities and dwarfing even some of Marvel's biggest heroes.

What's more, he is made out of stone, giving him an extra layer of protection and yet a significant weakness. He would be a physical threat to Godzilla, who may not have the abilities to face a creature created by rock.

1 Supaidāman's Villains

Japanese Spider-Man pilots Leopardon into Spider-Verse

There's a number of reasons to give the Japanese iteration of Spider-Man a chance, but his rogues gallery might just be the biggest of them all. This version of the Spider-Man universe contains a whole host of original villains.

When they are near defeat they grow to a monstrous size, becoming more dangerous than ever. Any one of them could be a threat to Godzilla, although of course Spider-Man's robot Leopardon is, in turn, a dangerous foe to these villains.
