Monster Hunter director Paul W.S Anderson is hyping up the film's monsters by comparing them to the prehistoric beasts seen in Jurassic World.

"All our monsters are 50-60 feet tall. They're really amazing. We're building them in even more detail than the dinosaurs of Jurassic World," said Anderson in an interview with Empire Magazine. "And they look even better, because we shot on real locations in South Africa and Namibia, which gives the animators something to really match into: real wind, real dust, real sun-flare. The monsters are the only CG thing in there."

Anderson later noted that the juxtaposition of tactile environments with stylized CGI monsters led to the crew of Monster Hunter describing the project as "Lawrence of Arabia ... but with monsters!"

The upcoming film is loosely based on the Capcom video game series of the same name. Monster Hunter follows Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich), a member of a United Nations military team. When she and her teammates find themselves stranded in a world filled with giant monsters, she and a hunter, played by Tony Jaa, must cooperate to search for and rescue Artemis' soldiers and return home.

Recently, Monster Hunter became the latest Hollywood feature to receive a release date delay. Previously scheduled for a September 4, 2020 bow, Monster Hunter was delayed to April 23, 2021.

Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, Monster Hunter stars Milla Jovovich, Ron Perlman, TI, Tony Jaa and Diego Boneta. The movie is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 23, 2021.
