Audiences still have a long wait to see Monster Hunter, despite the film being completed.

"The movie is 100 percent finished," director Paul W.S. Anderson said to Syfy Wire, "We were supposed to be releasing it on Labor Day weekend but we pushed it into 2021, but it’s completely done. So it’s coming out April 23 of next year. For me, it’s my most favorite movie I’ve ever made. It has a rather unique look to it."

In July, Monter Hunter was delayed seven months from its original Sept. 4 release date. No official reason was given for the delay.

Monster Hunter is loosely based on the Capcom video game series of the same name. The story follows Lt. Artemis (Milla Jovovich), a member of a United Nations military team. When she and her teammates find themselves stranded in a world filled with giant monsters, she and a hunter, played by Tony Jaa, must cooperate to search for and rescue Artemis' soldiers and return home.

Launched in 2004, Capcom's video game series consists of five core games. At last count, the franchise had sold approximately 63 million copies worldwide, with the latest game, Monster Hunter World, selling 15.5 million.

Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, Monster Hunter stars Milla Jovovich, Ron Perlman, TI, Tony Jaa and Diego Boneta. The film arrives in theaters April 23, 2021.
