The upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 30th anniversary special officially includes the original Blue and Black Power Rangers.

David Yost, who played Billy Cranston, aka the first Blue Ranger, shared the news on his official Instagram on Sept. 30. Yost was joined on set in New Zealand by Walter Emanuel Jones, who played Zack Taylor, aka the first Black Ranger, in the classic series. "We are working on something really special to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Power Rangers," Yost explained. "I can't give you too many details quite yet, but I will tell you that it is going to be an epic celebration."

The Original Power Rangers Are Poised for a Comeback

Both Yost and Jones made their debuts as part of the first lineup of heroes on 1993's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers live-action television series from Saban. While Jones left the series after its second season alongside the original Red and Yellow Rangers played by Austin St. John and Thuy Trang, the latter of whom tragically passed away in 2001, Yost made his last appearance in the original series long after passing his Blue Ranger status along and taking on a supporting role rather than being an active member of the team.

The news of Yost and Jones' returns comes after it was reported in May that Hasbro had reached out to all the remaining members of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers cast to return for the 30th anniversary celebration. Currently, St. John and Amy Jo Johnson, who played the original Pink Ranger Kimberly Ann Hart, have not confirmed whether they will be appearing in the special.

Yost and Jones' announcement also comes on the heels of leaks regarding the upcoming Netflix Power Rangers universe, which is set to reboot the series for an older audience across both a new TV show and feature film. End of the F***ing World creator and director Jonathan Entwistle, who will be leading Netflix's Power Rangers Cinematic Universe alongside Jenny Klein, previously explained that the "new Power Rangers show that [Jenny Klein] and I are working on is firmly part of the new Cinematic Universe. Can't wait to share more information with everyone soon! Maybe some familiar faces... in a brand new universe..."

The Power Rangers 30th anniversary will be taking place in 2023. There are currently no announced release dates for the reboot film or series.
