Months after joking that Elden Ring developers should have come to him to write a game, Mistborn author Brandon Sanderson revealed fans might get a chance to see what that would have looked like.

During a recent live stream, Sanderson opened an Elden Ring promotional gift box from Elden Ring's publisher Bandai Namco that featured a sword, a woodcut, a cloak and a map of the lands between. Along with the goodies, Sanderson revealed a note from the company which expressed an interest in working with the author on a project in the future. He did not clarify whether FromSoftware, the developer of Elden Ring, expressed the same interest. You can see the moment below:

Sanderson revealed he already had a few ideas and stated, "I actually have a pitch for them, in the back of my head [...] so I may have to send them my pitch and see what they think." Whether this is attached to Sanderson's idea for a "Soulsborne sort of game" that he talked about in a blog post back in December isn't clear. In the same post, Sanderson revealed he'd been working on a video game for several years.

There is little known about that project, though Sanderson previously stated clues for fans: "It's not for one of my properties, but something new that I built with them. It's a game company many of you will have heard of, but probably not the one you're thinking about right now. Not that other one either."

The author did not make apparent how deep his involvement with the game is. If it is anything like George R.R. Martin's involvement in Elden Ring, it's possible Sanderson already finished his portion of the work with the rest in the hands of the developers. In the case of Elden Ring, Martin wrote the general plot, characters, familial ties and overall mythos to the Lands Between, then gave the developers free reign to do what they wanted with the work. However, after finishing that work, FromSoftware kept Martin up to date and occasionally shared some of the work with him.

"I worked up a fairly detailed background for them and they took it from there, so really it's been several years since I've last seen them," Martin said, "but they would come in periodically and show me some monsters they designed or the latest special effects or other cool things."

Elden Ring was developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco. The game is available to play now on PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
