Mission: Impossible 7 Adds Agent Carter Star Hayley Atwell

Agent Carter star Hayley Atwell has joined Mission: Impossible 7.

Writer and director Christopher McQuarrie shared a headshot of Atwell on top of a folder reading "Impossible Mission Force" on his Instagram. Additional details about the role weren't disclosed. He captioned the image with the franchise's iconic line "should you choose to accept."

Atwell is known for playing Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In addition to playing the character in Captain America: The First Avenger, she's reprised the role both for film and TV. Outside of the MCU, she's had roles in Christopher RobinBlack Mirror and 3Below: Tales of Arcadia.

The most recent installment of the long-running franchise, Mission: Impossible -- Fallout, went on to earn an impressive $791 million at the worldwide box office against a budget of $178 million, a franchise best. The immensely popular franchise has now amassed over $3.5 billion worldwide.

Mission: Impossible 7 will be written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, with Tom Cruise set to again return as Ethan Hunt. While production is expected to begin later this year, after Cruise wraps work on Top Gun: Maverick, it's currently unknown which other cast members will return for the forthcoming films, although it's been said that both Henry Cavill and Alec Baldwin could return in some capacity.
