The new footage sees Tom Cruise return as iconic superspy Ethan Hunt as he embarks on another globe-trotting quest to save the world. A variety of impressive stunts, including a crashing steam train and several car chases, take center stage while returning characters such as Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson make a triumphant return. Fans of the films were also treated to their first looks at franchise newcomers Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff and Esai Morales.

While little is currently known about Dead Reckoning Part One's plot, the film has undergone a troubled development due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially scheduled to release in July 2021, Paramount delayed the movie's release into 2023 after the global lockdown shut down the film's production.

Despite the delay, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is seemingly shaping up to be another explosive installment in the franchise. Cruise recently went on record to say that the upcoming film includes one of the most "dangerous" stunts he's ever performed. The sequence in question sees Cruise driving a motorcycle off a cliff, breaking off from it mid-fall and deploying a parachute. The Hollywood icon claims that the training required for the stunt saw him skydiving 500 times and completing 13,000 motorcycle jumps.

While fans may be hungry for the seventh Mission: Impossible movie, they won't need to wait much longer for Dead Reckoning Part One, despite some controversy surrounding the movie's distribution. Cruise reportedly held the latest Mission: Impossible "hostage" as a statement regarding his displeasure over its shorter-than-expected theatrical window. The actor was reportedly campaigning for the film to be available in cinemas for longer than 45 days before eventually transitioning to Paramount+, the distributor's streaming service. Cruise insists that this release window is a violation of his contract with Paramount as the actor earns the majority of his money through box office ticket sales.

Directed and written by Christopher McQuarrie, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One stars Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Ving Rhames Simon Pegg, Esai Morales and Cary Elwes. The film hits theaters on July 14, 2023.
