We can stop referring to Paramount Pictures’ sixth Mission: Impossible film as the rather generic “Mission: Impossible 6,” as franchise star Tom Cruise has revealed the official title: Mission: Impossible — Fallout.
Cruise broke the news on Instagram, christening his new account with a behind-the-scenes photo of a clapboard emblazoned with the movie’s title, followed immediately by a shot of himself as Ethan Hunt, hanging on to a helicopter in mid-flight. “We’ve upped the ante for the sixth #MissionImpossible,” he wrote. “I can’t wait for you guys to see more.”
The actor is joined in the sequel by returning co-stars Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, and Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, along with franchise newcomers Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett and Vanessa Kirby. Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote and directed 2015’s Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation, performed the same duties on Fallout.
Paramount also released the first synopsis for the film:
The best intentions often come back to haunt you. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan) in a race against time after a mission gone wrong. Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby also join the dynamic cast with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm.
Also starring Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan, Alec Baldwin, Sean Harris, Sian Brooke and Frederick Schmidt, Mission: Impossible — Fallout arrives in theaters July 27.
