'Mission: Impossible 5' Stops Production to Sort Out Its Ending

Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt has been left hanging while "Mission: Impossible 5" pursues a new ending.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures recently shut down production for "a week or so" to give director Christopher McQuarrie and an unidentified (and uncredited) "writer friend" time to hammer out a new finale after the original was determined to be unsatisfactory.

Although the website notes it's a costly and unusual move, one unnamed source indicated the studio isn't too concerned -- otherwise it wouldn't have moved the premiere from Christmas to July 31.

"Mission: Impossible 5" also stars franchise veterans Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames, joined by newcomers Sean Harris, Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin, Simon McBurney, Zhang Jingchu.
