'Mission: Impossible 5' Recruits New Writer

Ever since initiating Ghost Protocol in 2011, the Mission: Impossible franchise has been relatively quiet. We know Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt, and that his Jack Reacher director Christopher McQuarrie will be behind the lens.

Now, we also know who will be handling the script: Will Staples. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the relatively unknown writer will try his hand at Hunt's next impossible mission, following Iron Man 3 scribe Drew Pearce, who penned an earlier version of the script.

Staples is best known for his story work on video games like Need for Speed: Rivals and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. He has several films in development as well, including King of Heists, starring Jeremy Renner, the co-lead of the last Mission: Impossible movie.
