Fox has unveiled the fittingly ethereal first trailer for Tim Burton's adaptation of "Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children," starring Eva Green and Asa Butterfield.

Much of the footage is devoted to introducing the titular home, and its children, from Ransom Riggs’ bestselling 2011 novel. It's only toward the end that we get a hint of the dangers -- and a look at Samuel L. Jackson's character.

The film tells the story of Jacob Portman, a teenager who, in the aftermath of a family tragedy, follows clues from his grandfather’s past that lead him to derelict orphanage for “peculiar children” and a gateway to an alternate realm. As he learns about the residents and their unusual abilities, Jake realizes that safety is an illusion, and danger lurks in the form of powerful, hidden enemies. Jake must figure out who is real, who can be trusted, and who he really is.

Opening Sept. 30, "Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children" also stars Ella Purnell, Allison Janney, Terence Stamp, Rupert Everett and Judi Dench.
