Fox used Sunday's Teen Choice Awards telecast as an opportunity to debut an extended TV spot for "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children," which looks as if it could mark a return to form for director Tim Burton. It's certainly a good match between source material and the filmmaker's sensibilities.

Based on the bestselling fantasy novel by Ransom Riggs, it tells the story of Jacob Portman, a teenager who, in the aftermath of a family tragedy, follows clues from his grandfather’s past that lead him to derelict orphanage for “peculiar children” and a gateway to an alternate realm. As he learns about the residents and their unusual abilities, Jake realizes that safety is an illusion, and danger lurks in the form of powerful, hidden enemies. Jake must figure out who is real, who can be trusted, and who he really is.

Opening Sept. 30, “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” stars Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, Ella Purnell, Chris O’Dowd, Allison Janney, Terence Stamp, Rupert Everett, Judi Dench and Samuel L. Jackson.
