Overpowered leads are a common trope in anime, and The Misfit of Demon King Academy is no stranger to the concept. Anos Voldigoad is a terrifying demon king who reincarnates thousands of years after he is killed by the hero Kanon. He joins the Demon King Academy Delsgade that is supposed to train the next Demon King of Tyranny, but he isn’t exactly popular.

Yet, Anos would probably be able to make many friends among other anime characters. His death is actually a deliberate sacrifice, made to separate demons from humans and permanently end the conflict between the two species. Anos is truly a complex person and he wouldn’t have a hard time finding kindred spirits.

10 The Demon Emperor Lelouch Has A Fate Similar To Anos’s (Code Geass)

Emperor Lelouch from Code Geass

If there’s anyone who can understand Anos’ self-sacrificing determination to build a better world, it’s Code Geass’ Lelouch vi Britannia. Lelouch’s original quest to defeat Britannia is very similar to Anos’ war against humanity. Their personal motivations are almost identical, as both their mothers are killed.

The two characters have a similar fate. Like Anos, Lelouch sacrifices himself for the greater good. He dies in a form of assisted suicide, with the help of his friend-turned-rival Suzaku Kururugi. He goes down in history as the Demon Emperor of Britannia. Anos would certainly appreciate that and understand Lelouch’s position very well.

9 Sadao Maou’s Desire To Help His People Makes Him As Feared As Anos (The Devil Is A Part-Timer)

Sadao Maou (The Devil Is A Part Timer)

In the reverse isekai The Devil is a Part-Timer, the demon lord Satan Jacob is defeated by the hero Emilia Justina. He takes refuge on Earth, choosing the name Sadao Maou and becoming a valued employee at MgRonald’s. His bloodthirsty reputation as Satan is thanks to his failure to communicate properly with his generals. As demons need negative emotions to prosper, he instructed them to conquer the lands of Ente Isla but didn’t go into detail about which method they should use.

This led to some of them using highly violent methods. In reality, Sadao respects human society, but he just has to make a choice between them and his people. That makes him as feared as the Demon King of Tyranny. The two characters would probably bond over their less-than-ideal experience with humans.

8 Kirito’s Determination And Spirit Make Him Worthy Of Anos’s Respect (Sword Art Online)

Kirito with sword in Sword Art Online

The protagonist of Sword Art Online, Kirito joins the virtual MMORPG SAO, only to realize its creator, Akihiko Kayaba, has turned it into a death game. He manages to clear the game and defeat Kayaba but nearly dies himself in the confrontation with SAO’s creator.

While Kirito’s path is originally quite different from Anos’s, the Alicization Arc traps him in the Underworld, where he becomes a king, alongside his main romantic interest, Asuna. In some ways, he may remind Anos of his unlikely friend, Kanon. He would respect Kirito for his determination, spirit, and constant refusal to give up.

7 Tatsuya May Regain His Emotions With Anos’s Help (The Irregular At Magic High School)

shiba tatsuya

Anos isn’t the only overpowered anime protagonist who has a less-than-ideal experience at school. In The Irregular at Magic Highschool, Tatsuya Shiba goes through something similar. He is seen as a Weed – a poor magic-user – due to having a slow Magic Calculation Area. In reality, he is incredibly powerful, his magical abilities complemented by ninjutsu techniques.

Due to being submitted to an extremely dangerous magical procedure at a young age, Tatsuya’s ability to feel strong emotion can only include one person, his sister. But if there’s anyone who could fix that, it would probably be Anos. His magic allows him to defy time itself, and he has reached into the past to save his friend Misha Necron. Tatsuya doesn't think he can ever get what he lost back, but Anos may very well prove him wrong.

6 Moriarty’s Revolutionary Scheme Is Something Anos Would Understand (Moriarty The Patriot)

moriarty the patriot

A more recent addition to the list of self-sacrificing antiheroes, the protagonist of Moriarty the Patriot comes up with a deadly scheme to revolutionize Britain’s society. Together with his siblings, he becomes the Lord of Crime, committing atrocious acts that ultimately force all social classes to stand together. It is a heavy burden for William, and he displays clear suicidal tendencies. While William does have his family as support, both he and Anos would have greatly benefitted from having each other as friends.

5 Hawks’ Potential Would Easily Draw Anos’ Eye (My Hero Academia)

Anime My Hero Academia Hawks Fierce Wings Quirk

Originally the son of a villain, My Hero Academia’s Hawks grows up abused by his parents. When he rescues a group of civilians from a serious accident, the Hero Public Safety Commission approaches his mother and practically buys him. He undergoes years of harsh treatment, earning him a top-ranking position among Japan’s heroes at a very young age.

But his tragic upbringing never makes him falter. Hawks is dedicated to his mission, even when he has to do questionable things that threaten his heroic nature. His apparently easy-going demeanor is a mask for an incredibly competent and determined young man. Anos would definitely see Hawks’ potential and want to help him achieve his dreams.

4 Rimuru's Desire To Protect His Nation Mimics Anos’ Motivations (Reincarnated As A Slime)

Another sovereign of a nation of non-humans, Rimuru is very much like Anos, in that he just wants peace between humans and monsters. Genuinely well-meaning, Rimuru is nonetheless very dangerous when crossed. After Tempest is the target of a vicious attack, Rimuru kills the invading army with the spell Megiddo and absorbs their souls, becoming a demon lord. There’s no doubt that Anos would have done something similar for his loved ones if it had been necessary. He would definitely appreciate both Rimuru’s power and his kindness.

3 Mikasa’s Protective Nature Would Likely Serve Anos Well (Attack On Titan)

Anos is a very powerful character, but even the strongest people need friends to watch their backs. Attack on Titan’s Mikasa Ackerman may very well fit the bill. The protector par excellence, she has often pulled off impossible feats while fighting titans, always with Eren in mind. Being an Eldian, she understands prejudice better than anyone and has been forced to make difficult choices before. She would find comfort in finding a friend with no genocidal intentions and Anos would appreciate her skills and strength.

2 Rem and Ram Would Be Perfect Choices For His Immediate Entourage (Re: Zero)

Rem and Ram from Re:Zero.

Sasha and Misha Necron are Anos’s first friends in his new life at Delsgade. Anos saves Misha from death and the two become incredibly loyal to him. But there is another set of twins who could easily join Anos’ entourage. Re: Zero’s Rem and Ram are oni with a tragic past. They are born with one horn each and only survive being executed by their own people due to Ram manifesting incredible magical potential.

After an attack of the Witch’s Cult, Ram loses her horn and is severely weakened. The two girls are rescued by Roswaal L Mathers and become his maids, something ironic considering Roswaal was responsible for the original attack on their village. Despite everything they have suffered, they are capable of immense loyalty toward their loved ones. Anos would definitely appreciate having them on his side.

1 Shinou May Have Welcomed The Help Of Another Demon King (King from Now On!)

shinou

In one of the lesser-known isekai series, King from Now On!, the first king of the demon land of Shin Makoku, Shinou, defeats the manifestation of evil, Soshu. It comes at a high price, as he is possessed by fragments of the creature. He and his friend – the Great Sage – decide to seal Soshu within Shinou's soul, which leads to Shinou being locked with Soshu in the Four Forbidden Boxes.

Shinou’s journey has a lot of things in common with Anos’. Both are demon kings feared by their enemies but highly respected by their own people, and defined by their decision to sacrifice themselves for their nation. Considering Anos’ power, he may have even been able to help Shinou and kept him from carrying such a heavy burden.
