WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for "The Misfit of Demon King Academy," episode 2, now streaming on Crunchyroll.

In The Misfit of Demon King Academy, misfit Anos Voldigoad has little support among his fellow students, despite being the actual demon king from the days of yore. While his peers have no idea their king is walking among them, Anos isn't discouraged, and he's working hard to recruit people to his side. After getting Misha Necron, he sets his sights on her powerhouse sister: Sasha. However, Sasha isn't easy to recruit.

Sisters At Odds

Most of Anos' classmates seem content to just whisper about or ignore him, but one particular girl thinks he's worth her time. Once Anos volunteers as the team leader in an upcoming exercise, Sasha Necron confronts him to see what he's really made of. She introduces herself as a pureblood ancestor of the great demon king, and she openly scorns her little sister Misha. They are not related by blood; Misa isn't even human at all. Instead, Misha is a doll made from "odds and ends" and animated with magic, a girl without a soul.

Anos, who loves his new family (especially his mother), doesn't like what he's hearing. Sisters should respect and love one another, and he and Sasha make a bet. They will clash in an upcoming magic test: Anos' team vs Sasha's team. If Sasha wins, Anos becomes her servant. Should Anos win, Sasha will become his new companion and friend.

Settling It

The magic battle gets underway, and sure enough, Anos only has Misha by his side. Sasha, for her part, has a full team of seven, and she acts as the "king" who holds the team together. Each side synthesizes castles via magic as their home bases, and Anos shocks everyone when he steps into the open and arrives at Sasha's front door. Sasha's defenses are unable to stop Anos from tossing around her castle, and she can only hang on for dear life as he flings the castle high into the sky with little effort.

Anos keeps it up; he spins the castle like a top, then flings it across the landscape and leaves it in ruins. Furious, Sasha prepares to hit back with a devastating spell that requires her whole team to cast. They fire a magic cannon, only for Anos to survive the blast and return fire with a simple spell. Beaten, Sasha is on the ground, pouting as Anos stands over her. Still, Sasha is ready to uphold her end of the bargain, though reluctantly.

But they won't be butting heads for much longer. Anos isn't here to torment or mock Sasha; instead, he genuinely admires her power and potential, especially her demon eyes of destruction. Anos makes peace when he brings Sasha and Misha along to a family dinner, and after he walks her home, Anos compliments Sasha's powerful eyes. Sasha is grateful for the compliment, then tentatively asks Anos if he thinks it possible for a person to escape their destiny, hinting at future conflicts to come over Sasha's personal fate.

Anos is the powerhouse of Demong King Academy, but instead of lording it over the masses, he deflates the pride of students like Zepes and Sasha, and accepts them as friends. That's what a real king does.
