"The Fight of the Century" is already taken, so let's call this "The Battle of the Bows."
In one corner, 87-year-old Minnie "Yoo-Hoo" Mouse; in the other, 41-year-old Kitty "Hello Kitty" White. In a fight decades in the making, the two merchandising icons finally faced off last week in -- where else? -- Times Square, with child psychologists emerging the real winners.
The New York Daily News reports police on Thursday afternoon arrested Minnie Mouse and Hello Kitty after the allegedly came to blows over tips. Sandra Mocha, 34, of Queens, and Giovanna Melendez, 40, of New Jersey, were charged with assault, adding their names to the long list of costumed characters gone bad at the Crossroads of the World.
According to The Daily Mail, the fight began when tip money was given to Hello Kitty with the understanding she would split it. However, Minnie Mouse apparently didn't trust that she would. So, the gloves came off.
The incident is already being cited as one more reason to institute a licensing system for Times Square, which in recent years has been witness to Ultimate Spider-Man's scuffle with police, a Batman/Spider-Man team-up, a confrontation between the wall-crawler and a tourist, and at least one groping.
