Mojang’s annual live show celebrating Minecraft will stream on Oct. 3. The announcement for the event, which has been rebranded from Minecon to Minecraft Live, came in the form of an animated trailer, teasing some of the updates, mobs and activities players can look forward to seeing during the show.

The trailer mostly revolved around a Minecraft zombie chasing after a chicken, while showcasing some of the different mobs and environments found in the game and some of its spinoffs. This most notably includes Minecraft Dungeons, a linear, story-driven campaign with cutscenes as opposed to the usual sandbox.

Although Mojang hasn't revealed what new updates will be explained at Minecraft Live, the event trailer said some “huge updates” are coming. It was also announced that the next mob/enemy to enter the game will be voted for by fans during the celebration.

Some mobs in Dungeons that cannot be found in the base game include the magic illusioner and the redstone golumn. It’s possible these two could be candidates for which new mob is added into the original game by popular vote.

In addition to yet another name change, this year's Minecraft Live celebration will be far different from past events in a significant way: It's entirely online. “The main thing you need to know is that this year the celebration takes place online. Due to the impact of Covid-19, Mojang Studios has delayed Minecraft Festival until 2022 and will no longer be involved with official community events. Until then, we’re going to bring the party directly to your device and we’ve got all of our usual goodies lined up for you,” said Mojang’s Sophia Dankis.

As for updates, the live show’s plans are likely to include minor updates such as the Java and Bedrock Editions. As shown in the trailer, there may be a much bigger update or announcement. One is hinted at by how often chickens are mentioned by Mojang: “Join us on Minecraft.net/live for updates, mob votes, news, and delightful banter. Oh, and chickens. Lots and lots of chickens,” said Dankis.

Fans can join the Minecraft Live show by going to Minecraft.net/live on Oct. 3 at 12 p.m. ET.
