Since its 2009 release, Minecraft has captured the hearts of gamers of all ages worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling games of all time, with over 176 million copies sold to date. The game encourages boundless creativity, as it allows for endless crafting, building, and cooperation between friends. At the end of the day, players have been content to simply play Minecraft without demanding more features than what Mojang has already provided with each update.

Even though players have long been enjoying the original Minecraft and its subsequent spin-offs, Mojang developed and released a much-anticipated new release: Minecraft Legends. The game promises a new style of play while still holding true to the world of Minecraft. Players should know, however, that Minecraft Legends will feature some key differences from the original game.

Similarities Between Minecraft and Minecraft Legends

The main similarities between Minecraft and Minecraft Legends lie in the base world of the game that players have grown so used to. Like in Minecraft, players will load into a unique world that they must explore to learn the terrain. The game's story pits players against invading piglins that wish to bring the horrors of the Nether to the Overworld, so it is vital that players learn their surroundings and how best to build their defenses around them.

Minecraft Legends also features a variety of familiar mobs and creatures. Creepers, Skeletons, Zombies, and Villagers populate the world, along with adorable (and not-so-adorable) animals like dogs and cheetahs. However, players of Minecraft Legends have the opportunity to team up with previously hostile mobs to take down the piglins, as it is the entire world at risk, and so they must work together to take them down.

Differences Between Minecraft and Minecraft Legends

Minecraft is known for being a game without a specified path and storyline, unlike many games. While it is technically possible to beat the game, it is by no means required, and players can enjoy endless hours without ever doing so. Minecraft Legends, on the other hand, has a third-person, linear story, which is one of the biggest differences between it and the original.

While present in Minecraft Legends, building and mining will be scaled down in priority and, in some ways, expedited. Instead of having to place and mine single blocks at a time, structures will be built instantaneously as long as the materials are available in the player's inventory. Materials will also be mined en masse.

Will Minecraft Players Enjoy Minecraft Legends?

Overall, Minecraft Legends has a lot that Minecraft players will enjoy. The familiar world and a new way of playing offer a new challenge for even the most seasoned players. However, players looking for a relaxing sandbox-based building game may find themselves disappointed with Minecraft Legends' action-based strategy gameplay.

Players on Reddit are already voicing their opinions, which are reasonably mixed but positive overall. User r/Areajugones praised the game, stating that "Minecraft Legends is a whole new world, fun and entertaining to say enough. It has enough elements to give us hours and hours of entertainment, and its multiplayer mode is the best possible extra fun," while r/Eurogamer claims it isn't anything special, though they do credit the game for its "blocky charm [being] present and correct." Needless to say, there is a lot for Minecraft players new and old to enjoy about Minecraft Legends, and with a high rating and glowing reviews, the fun is sure to continue for a long time.
