Minecraft mash-up packs are collections of texture packs, realms, and skins that can easily alter the game to match a specific theme or imitate an existing intellectual property. True to Minecraft's range, the various IPs that find their way in as mash-up packs can vary, and there will be some surprises among the available packs.

The most interesting packs are the ones that change the game. Whether altering the game's atmosphere or changing the basic gameplay, the packs that change the game’s mechanics stand out as unique and interesting because of how far they go to add fresh new ideas to Minecraft.

10 The Fallout Pack Makes Minecraft Feel Oppressive

The Sole Survivor and Dogmeat exploring the wasteland in the Fallout mash-up pack

The world of Fallout isn't a fun or friendly place. Between the mutated monsters and the general struggle for survival, it’s odd to see the harsh series get a mash-up pack with Minecraft. While Minecraft has its survival elements, it has a very open and inviting feeling to it that balances the tension of the survival-game mechanics.

This changes with the addition of the Fallout pack, as the once bright and peaceful landscapes of Minecraft get replaced with the destroyed ruins of the apocalypse. This adds a whole new level of tension to the game and makes the experience of building in Minecraft a far darker experience than it was.

9 The Pirates Of The Caribbean Pack Brings Building To The High Seas

Boats in Minecraft aren’t the most impressive items in the game. They’re small little rowboats that end up looking like cardboard boxes because of the game’s blocky aesthetic. Most people will only use boats to reach undersea dungeons or when they need to sail to a new location.

The Pirates of the Caribbean pack, based on the iconic movies, forces players to sail far more and changes the game from an open-world survival game into an open-world sailing simulator. To experience all the realm offers, players will need top-notch nautical skills and a rowboat on them at all times.

8 Explore The Mushroom Kingdom With The Super Mario Pack

Super Mario has a reputation for featuring many games across many genres. From racing games to traditional platformers, it seems like Mario and his pals have been in every genre possible. The one genre there hasn’t been a Mario game in, however, is open world.

7 LittleBigPlanet Marries Platforming & Creativity

Possibly one of the most obvious mash-up packs, the LittleBigPlanet pack perfectly combines the two games' imaginative nature with platforming. After leaving the cardboard ship that serves as LittleBigPlanet’s hub, players can parkour across a variety of lands.

The mash-up pack does an excellent job recreating the style and feel of the LittleBigPlanet games and even introduces challenging platforming levels for players to enjoy. All of these combine to turn Minecraft into a surprisingly enjoyable platforming game with plenty of twists and turns for players.

6 The Toy Story Pack Brings Big Ideas & Small Characters

Based on the four classic movies, the Toy Story mash-up pack completely changes Minecraft by altering the scale of the world. Thanks to some clever building tricks, the mash-up pack turns the player into a toy in Andy’s room and even makes the player feel like a small toy. The bright colors feel straight out of a Pixar movie and make everything feel peaceful.

To get out of Andy’s room, the player must slip out through the gap in the room’s door. From there, they can explore iconic locations from all four movies. Notable locations include Sid’s house and Al’s Toy Barn.

5 Parkour Across Rooftops With The Ninja Pack

While it’s not based on any specific game or movie, the ninja mash-up pack introduces new items that change how the player can move through their world. The first of these items is a fully functional grappling hook, which can help players parkour across the entire realm. There are also smoke bombs and shuriken at the players' disposal.

Thanks to the How to Train Your Dragon pack, everyone's favorite dragons can be found in Minecraft. Players can head to the island of Berk to train, ride, and go on quests with the various dragons from the show. The pack upends everything players are used to, and it provides a new way to interact with Minecraft's vast expanse of nature.

The dragons are all as distinct and vibrant as they appear in the movies, and the player can train the full range of dragons available. With all the new things to do in this pack, it’s easily one of the best Minecraft has to offer.

A particularly strange Minecraft pack, this one turns the game into Pac-Man. There’s no other trick or gimmick to this mash-up, it simply turns Minecraft into Pac-Man. There are ten mazes for the player to collect dots in, complete with the series' classic ghosts.

The pack even iterates on the classic arcade game by adding a level designer, new power-ups, and a fifth ghost based on Minecraft's creepers. This may be one of the most interesting ways to play Pac-Man thanks to the new elements it adds to the classic arcade formula.

1 Enjoy Sonic In A Whole New Way With The Sonic Pack

Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Amy, and Shadow as they appear in the Sonice mash-up pack.

Speed in Minecraft isn’t anything new. Whether running from zombies to speed running, going fast in Minecraft is as common as mining for diamonds. The Sonic the Hedgehog pack takes this to a whole new level by placing players in the Blue Blur's red and white shoes. This pack takes the survival game and turns it into the latest 3D Sonic game, complete with levels from the classic games.

Players can experience the good old days of Sonic by playing characters like Tails and Shadow the Hedgehog. Each level features a first-person perspective as well. This pack stands out because it doesn’t just add a new game to Minecraft, it turns Minecraft into a Sonic game.
