Minecraft's latest 1.19 update includes a variety of new items, creatures, and locations. Not only can players now explore mangrove swamps and build with brand-new blocks, but they can also explore the never-before-seen biomes of the Deep Dark and Ancient City. Players can encounter frogs and tadpoles as well as a frightening new mob called the Warden. However, the most interesting and unique new addition in Minecraft's latest update is the Allay.

Allays are small, glowing mobs that can collect items for players. Not only are they adorable to have around, but they also contribute to the gameplay in interesting ways. However, they can be hard to find, though this arguably makes locating them all the more exciting. Here's a quick guide on where and how to acquire Allays and why it's worth it.

Where To Find Allays

Allays can be found in two locations: Pillager Outpost and Woodland Mansion. Pillager Outposts can be found in any villager-inhabiting biome, including the Plains, Desert, Meadow, Stony Peaks, and Savannah, to name a few. They can be found within dark cages, and anywhere from one to three can spawn at a time.

Meanwhile, Woodland Mansions can be found in dark forests, where the lighting is fairly dim. Much like in Pillager Outposts, up to three Allays can spawn in a cell within Woodland Mansions. Woodland Mansions also contain Evokers and Vindicators, which the player will need to avoid or kill in order to explore further. Players can also spawn Allays in Creative Mode by using an Allay Spawn Egg. This egg cannot be crafted in Survival Mode, but it can be used and found in Creative Mode in the Creative Inventory menu. Once set down, it will immediately spawn an Allay.

Taming and Duplicating an Allay

Taming an Allay in Minecraft

Allays, unlike other creatures in Minecraft, are fairly easy to tame. All it requires is giving an Allay a single item. Once it has received an item, it will begin to follow the player. It will also search the nearby vicinity for the item it's been given within a radius of about 32 blocks.

While Allays don't breed in the same way as other animals, they can be duplicated. Allays have a love for music and dance, and this can be used for creating more of them. As of Minecraft's 1.19.1 update, when an Allay hears a jukebox playing, it begins to sing and dance. Giving an Allay an amethyst shard as it does this will cause it to duplicate a second Allay for the player to utilize. However, it's recommended that the player crafts a pen or cage to keep the Allays in, so they don't leave. Once the player removes the item Allays are holding, they will begin to disperse. By creating cages, the player will always have their small gathering companions nearby for whenever they need them.

Allays and Collecting Items

Allays have only one inventory slot and can only carry and collect one object at a time. They can also carry swords, but they can't use them in combat. Players can't injure an Allay, even on accident, but an Allay can be injured by other enemies and monsters. Allays have 10 hearts, meaning that it has 20 health points in total. Allays can additionally be injured or killed by fire and staying underwater for too long.

While Allays can collect items, they're unable to mine blocks for the player. They can, however, gather and forage other items they find nearby. By placing a Note Block on the ground and activating it, an Allay will arrive and deposit all of its holdings onto the block. The player can also give an Allay a new item whenever needed, and it will begin scouring for the new item instead.

During a live stream in 2021, Mojang stated that they believe Allays could help players organize or clean up a variety of areas in-game. As collecting, building, and utilizing nearby resources is a key ingredient to succeeding in Minecraft, this mob will no doubt help players in a variety of ways.

Other Ways to Utilize Allays

As Allays can't destroy blocks but can pick up similar objects nearby, they can be a great tool to use while farming. By placing a hopper near an activated note block, everything the Allay throws toward the note block will be picked up by the hopper, making it easier for the player to gather. In this sense, Allays can be used to make the player's farming system almost fully automatic.

Allays can also be used during mining sessions. Instead of players needing to clear out an area themselves while mining and potentially exploding items nearby, Allays can pick up items on their behalf. Once a mining session has ended, they can deliver all that they collected to the player. Additionally, if a player dies during a mining session or anywhere on the map, they can use Allays to help them retrieve their items again. By having more than one Allay tag along, the player can give each of them an item to retrieve, making it easier than ever to recover from a devastating loss.

Thanks to the Allay's ability to collect, as well as players' ability to have more than one Allay at their beck and call, they're an excellent ally in terms of building and crafting, especially for larger projects. If a player is interested in crafting a larger project that requires large quantities of supplies, Allays can aid the player in gathering and delivering the equipment they need. Players can save time and energy simply by having their blue companions fetch the supplies for them.

Allays are useful, cute, and creative creatures that can make Minecraft players' lives easier if utilized correctly. Not only can they make farming and mining easier, but they're a joy to see fluttering around and keep as unique pets or companions.
