Renowned artist Milton Glaser has died. Glaser passed away on June 26, on his 91st birthday. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Glaser, who announced that her husband suffered renal failure and died from a stroke.

Glaser is well known for conceiving iconic graphics and artwork immortalized in popular culture, including DC Comics' famous bullet logo, which was used by the comic book publisher from 1976 until 2005. Glaser also designed the iconic "I ♥ NY" logo, the highly recognizable Bob Dylan psychedelic poster and more-- many works of art that defined the '70s and '80s.

On top of his career as an accomplished graphic artist, Glaser also co-founded New York magazine with Clay Felker in 1968, as a competitor to The New Yorker. Over his decades-long career, Glaser has earned a number of prestigious awards and accolades, including a National Design Award Lifetime Achievement, the National Medal of Arts and more.

Milton Glaser was born in New York to Eugene and Eleanor Glaser, who had immigrated to the U.S. from Hungary. He has explained in past interviews that he was inspired to become an artist when his cousin drew a picture of a bird for him, demonstrating what could be done with just a pencil.
