CBR has an exclusive look at “The Dumas Family” and “Katherine Dunham,” two stories in DC Comics and Milestone Media's upcoming Milestones in History anthology.

Milestones in History goes on sale in June from DC and Milestone Media. The giant-sized one-shot is set in the fictional midwestern city of Dakota and sees a group of superpowered citizens -- including Static, Icon, Rocket, Hardware and more -- narrate true stories of Black icons from all throughout history. One of these stories, "The Dumas Family" by Tananarive Due and Jamal Igle, focuses on Three Muskateers author Alexander Dumas. Another entry, "Katherine Dunham" by The Fresh Prince of Bel Air's Karyn Parsons and Francesco Francavilla, dives into the life of Dunham, who was a dancer, choreographer, author, anthropologist and social activist.

Additional stories within Milestones in History include "Lucy" by Alice Randall and Eric Battle, "The Queen of Sheba" by Amy Chu and Maria Laura Sanapo, "Hannibal" by Steven Barnes and Ron Wilson, "Pushkin" by Randall and Don Hudson, "Eugene Bullard" by Pat Charles and Arvell Jones, "Prince" by Touré and Ray-Anthony Height, "Bessie Coleman/Mae Jemison" by Melody Cooper and Domo Stanton and "Things to Come" by Reginald Hudlin, Leon Chills and Denys Cowan.

The final entry, "Things to Come," serves as both an epilogue and a tease to the next big Milestone activation in the Dakotaverse, which initially launched by Milestone Media in 1993 with titles such as Blood Syndicate, Hardware, Icon and Static. Milestone Media shut down in 1997 but was then revived and brought into the DC Universe. "[Milestones in History] features an ending that will serve as the catalyst for the first big 'event' in Milestone, something most fans will never see coming," DC said of the one-shot.

"[Milestone co-founder Denys Cowan] and I have been wanting to do a book like Milestones in History for a long time," Milestone Media producer/writer/co-owner Reggie Hudlin previously said. "Some of our favorite comic books have been about the real-life superheroes of the Black community throughout history, and with all of the amazing writers, artists and scholars we know, we knew we could create a book that would be history-making in itself."

Milestones in History features main cover art by ChrisCross, with a variant cover by Doug Braithwaite. The anthology releases June 14 from DC and Milestone Media.
