WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Absolute Carnage: Miles Morales #2 by Saladin Ahmed, Federico Vicentini, Erick Arciniega and VC's Cory Petit, on sale now.

One of the biggest twists so far in the horror-tinged Marvel Comics crossover event Absolute Carnage is teenage superhero Miles Morales being corrupted and possessed. The resurgent and empowered Cletus Kasady bonded a bloodthirsty symbiote to the impressionable, young hero. Monstrously transformed, the Brooklyn-based Spider-Man quickly became a loyal servant of Carnage. He lashed out savagely at Peter Parker and Venom, forcing the two to retreat while Miles fell even deeper into Carnage's thrall.

In the latest issue of the tie-in miniseries Absolute Carnage: Miles Morales, the young webslinger's imprisoned psyche is fully revealed, struggling desperately to regain control as the murderous symbiote's influence spreads and asserts itself. Once the turmoil from Spider-Man and Venom's escape begins to settle down, Carnage gives his newest recruit his first assignment. He must hunt down and kill a public figure that would announce the villain's bloody return and strike fear in the heart of New York City: Miles Morales must murder J. Jonah Jameson.

As Miles struggles in vain to resist Carnage's orders, he is paired with another symbiote-possessed figure named Dan. Prior to bonding with his own symbiote and becoming a follower of Carnage's growing cult, Dan had been a serial killer who murdered his own mother. He was then incarcerated in the Ravencroft Institute where Carnage made his full, nightmarish return in the debut issue of Absolute Carnage.

Together, Miles and Dan attack Jameson while he's in a meeting with his media parent company and appear poised to complete their mission before the timely arrival of reinforcements. Miles learns that the media company he attacked has its own private security force through Sable International, led by world-class mercenary and longtime Spider-Man supporting character Silver Sable herself.

As Sable strikes and the assassination attempt escalates into an all-out brawl, the platinum-haired soldier of fortune puts up a valiant fight. Ultimately, though she is unable to stop the two ravenous symbiotes from pursuing Jameson to the roof of the building where he has fled in an effort to escape the scene via helicopter. Overpowered, Jameson is bitten by the corrupted Miles on the shoulder as the gruesome confrontation reaches its climax.

While the extent of Jameson's injuries are currently unknown, the incident will likely scar -- both physically and mentally -- the media firebrand for years to come. And with Jameson's beloved son John among the heroes corrupted and transformed by Carnage, the news personality's tragic connection to the deranged villain has expanded further.

However, the effects of being corrupted and possessed by one of Carnage's symbiotes are sure to have an especially lasting impact on Miles himself. Both Peter Parker and Eddie Brock were full-grown adults when they were bonded to the Venom symbiote. Despite this added maturity, both men would be irrevocably changed by their respective experiences, with Eddie in particular experiencing unhealthy physical and psychological consequences from his time with the symbiote.

Miles, on the other hand, is still just a teenager trying to get by in school while saving the day as Spider-Man, either by himself or with various young super-teams in the Marvel Universe. To be forcibly bonded to one of Carnage's twisted symbiotes will haunt the boy for years to come; one such symbiote had caused Norman Osborn's psyche to completely snap. And with the attack on Jameson, Miles has been drawn even deeper as an unwilling accomplice into Carnage's latest, bloody rampage which may plague him with guilt in his quietest moments to come.
