WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #10 by Saladin Ahmed, Javier Garrón, Annie Wu, David Curiel and Rachelle Rosenberg, on sale Wednesday, Sept. 11.

The release of Miles Morales: Spider-Man #10 also marks the 250th comic starring the web-slinger from the Ultimate Universe. Miles Morales was one of the breakout stars from the Ultimate Universe, which was an alternate reality featuring familiar Marvel characters, but with a slightly updated take. Peter Parker was the original Spider-Man in this universe, but died in a public fight against the Green Goblin.

Miles would go on to gain spider powers and become Spider-Man in Peter's absence. When the blockbuster Marvel event series Secret Wars wiped the Ultimate Universe from existence in 2105's Ultimate Ends miniseries, Miles was one of the few characters to transfer over to the Marvel Prime Universe. Along with fellow young heroes Ms. Marvel and Nova, Miles joined the Avengers and then was a founding member of the Champions.

As great as all those accolades are, things haven't exactly been going swell for Miles in his ongoing solo series. He was kidnapped and tortured at an unknown facility, requiring his father and uncle to rescue him. And then there is the matter of the Ultimate Universe's return. Marvel first teased Miles' home reality would be making a comeback in the final issue of Spider-Men II, in a sequence that brought back Peter Parker, the Ultimates and the Green Goblin.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #10 kickstarts the Ultimate Universe's revival with the introduction of a mysterious character called Ultimatum. Though Marvel's preview of Miles Morales: Spider-Man #10 doesn't reveal Ultimatum's identity, it does bring Miles face-to-face with the Ultimate Green Goblin.

Miles immediately has a flashback to his first confrontation with the Green Goblin. "Something is very wrong," Miles says. Of course, this goes without saying, since as far as Miles knows, the Green Goblin should be dead. Is his return tied to Ultimatum? And does Ultimatum have enough power to resurrect an entire universe?

Marvel Comics Senior Vice President Tom Brevoort touched on a return to the Ultimate Universe during the publisher's Next Big Thing C2E2 panel in 2018. After the revelation from Spider-Men II that the Ultimate Universe was still around, Brevoort hinted at potential plans for it. “We’ll be vague and mysterious... there are always plans," Brevoort responded when asked about its status by a fan.

The Ultimate Universe mystery will continue when Miles Morales: Spider-Man #10 goes on sale Sept. 11. The issue will also feature the secret origin of Starling, who debuted in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #6.
