A close look at Miles Morales' new Spider-Man outfit, set to debut in time for the character's 10th anniversary, was revealed by storyboard artist Chase Conley.Conley, who previously worked on Disney XD's Ultimate Spider-Man and Spider-Man series, wrote that he hoped to alter Miles' sleek look and "give him a different silhouette."
The outfit incorporates a pullover jacket with red arm highlights, a new spider logo and sneakers. Upon first glance, it's reminiscent of Miles' outfit for much of the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film. There, the teen hero wore a hoodie, shorts and Nike sneakers over his traditional costume until the finale. The more down-to-earth nature of the costume is also reminiscent of the hoodie outfit worn by Ben Reilly, the Scarlet Spider, during his debut in the '90s.
Conley noted that he had aimed to balance the jacket with the rest of the costume to "keep it from looking like a neck sock." Despite the jacket's pulled-up appearance over Miles' face, Conely said that Miles was still wearing his full mask, and the entire outfit could fit inside a backpack.
Conley, who has also worked on the likes of Netflix's Blood of Zeus and the animated adaption of The Death and Return of Superman, wrote that he originally designed a much baggier outfit before streamlining it to keep Miles from appearing "too young looking." Ultimately, the looser appearance of the costume had been designed to make Miles "feel more like a spider, a center mass moving, with smaller limbs sticking out."
Miles Morales, who debuted in 2011's Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1 by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, will don the new outfit on Sept. 1 in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #30, a celebration of the character's career over the last decade.
