Miles Morales was getting the smackdown from a creature straight out of mythology before another mystical hero came to his aid in a preview of Miles Morales: Spider-Man Annual #1.

The preview sees Miles choosing a different neighborhood to patrol for the night, though he couldn't have picked better if he was looking for trouble. A cyclops that towers over the young webslinger was in the middle of his meal (a person), which Miles had just interrupted. Miles tries fighting and using his shock attack against the creature - which isn't very effective - when the cyclops beats him down. Before the beast can deliver a finishing blow, Miles is rescued by a hero from the pages of Magnificent Ms. Marvel: Amulet.

This marks the fourth comic book appearance of Amulet since his debut in Magnificent Ms. Marvel #13, where he only appeared two more times throughout the series before it ended with Legacy Issue #75. Amulet's real name is Fadi Fadlalah, a hero whose family has been fighting against demons and monster spirits that can be found in and released from the "Thousand Cursed Things." Amulet helps Ms. Marvel destroy some of these items in the series, meaning the cyclops could be another spirit from one of the Thousand Cursed Things Amulet feels obligated to destroy.

The annual issue is also the latest release in the Infinite Destinies saga, which focuses on the resurgence of the infinity stones that have been bonded to individuals. Up until this point, only 4 of the 6 stone bearers have been seen in Marvel Comics: Quantum, Star, Overtime and the Prince of Power. Nick Fury was on a mission to track down the stone bearers in backup stories of each annual issue, before he wound up crossing paths with Nighthawk, who seeks to remake the world similar to the one seen in Heroes Reborn this past summer. This issue will feature another part of the Infinite Fury story.

Having Miles involved in another Infinite Destinies issue is a full circle moment for the saga. He had appeared in the first issue, Iron Man Annual #1, which saw Iron Man taking down the Assessor because Miles told Tony about how he had been kidnapped by the villain in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #7. While going after the Assessor, Tony crossed paths with the bearer of the space stone, Quantum.

It is unknown if Amulet's first appearance since Feb. 2021 could have any relation to the infinity stones. Not every issue in the Infinite Destinies saga has outright revealed a stone bearer, but given hints at what is to come from the future of Marvel. According to the preview, solicitation and cover though, we know that Amulet will be assisting Miles take on some magical threats connected to "cursed magical objects."
