"It's just a very wild place to be. I was forever grateful that my spiritual life let me be a kid that was in that type of stuff."

A Relaunch for Miles Morales

Ziglar -- who posted preview images of the book on Twitter, showing Miles fighting the Scorpion in his original outfit, rather than his newer sweatsuit -- added that he hopes to emphasize the street-level nature of Miles' heroics. "Peter has been there a lot for him," Ziglar said. "...I really wanted to pair him up with a Black street-level character. That's the story that I want to tell because I'm a big fan of the apprenticeship and the mentorship... Misty Knight experiences a much different reality than Matt Murdock does or Peter Parker just by the fact of being a Black woman so, I know that was an important thing to have in there."

One final issue of Miles' current series -- Miles Morales: Spider-Man #42 -- is set to hit comic store shelves on Wednesday, Sept. 28. Penned by Saladin Ahmed, the oversized issue serves as a send-off for Ahmed's run on the character, which began in 2018 shortly after Miles had only recently arrived to Marvel's main 616 universe following the Secret Wars event.

Written by Cody Ziglar and illustrated by Federico Vicentini, Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1 goes on sale in December 2022 from Marvel Comics.
