In a monumental move, DC Comics recently ended its 25-year partnership with Diamond Comic Distributor, following announcements that the publisher would distribute through alternate companies such as Lunar Distribution, UCS Comic Distributors and Penguin Random House for various releases. In response to the move, Mile High Comics announced a sale, offering discounts of 50 percent for those using the codeword "DC Sucks."

In a special newsletter, Mile High Comics founder Chuck Rozanski explained that this was in response to what he perceived to be DC Comics "sticking a shiv into the back of Diamond Comic Distributors, and Diamond founder, Steve Geppi." Rozanksi then expressed frustration and criticized DC for essentially acting in a way that will prove detrimental to the revival of "2000+ Direct Market comic book retailers."

He then speculated that the move by DC was prompted by an urgent need for an increased cash flow, created by AT&T's costly acquisition of Time Warner as well as expenses accrued as a consequence of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. "They need immense amounts of cash flow to service their debt," Rozanski wrote, "And they need it immediately."

Comments criticizing the prudence of DC's strategy then followed. Rozanski cited a similar strategy attempted by Marvel in 1998 as evidence that publishers compelling "Direct Market comics shops to... order their weekly publications from... distributors that they have self-anointed" does not work. "They lost millions in short term revenue, and even more from the debilitating effect that it had on their market share and their brand," Rozanski explained.

The Mile High Comics founder then went on to express concern for Geppi, writing, "He is my dear friend, and he also generously helped us in so many ways to stay in business during those years when we were down and out." The then remarked that the "new guys" at DC were coming for Geppi with "their heartless knives," and that all he could do is "watch the resulting carnage in dismay and horror." Despite Rozanski's sentiments, Diamond Comic Distributors previously released a statement in which it expressed confidence in the future of the company.

Rozanski founded Mile High Comics at the age of 13 in 1969 and opened his first store just five years later. Through sizeable sales of comic book back issues, Mile High Comics was partly responsible for turning rare comic books into valuable commodities.
