It's now been a month since "Hannibal" star Mads Mikkelsen was rumored to be up for the villain role in Marvel's upcoming "Doctor Strange" film. Things have been quiet on the casting front since then, with no more rumors surfacing involving both Mikkelsen and "Strange." Now, while speaking with Chinese site MTime, Mikkelsen provided an update on his potential journey into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"I know as much as the rest of the world about it," said Mikkelsen. "So far it's been rumors, and so I'm waiting for a phone call. And if they do call me I would be over the moon. It would be fantastic to be part of the Marvel family, I mean it's something we all grew up with and we all have our heroes and Doctor Strange is definitely one of the more interesting things."

The initial report of Mikkelsen's involvement came from Variety, who noted a month ago that a formal offer to appear in the film was expected shortly. Now a month has passed and, according to the actor, no progress has been made.

Mikkelsen will appear in the Star Wars anthology film "Rogue One," which is due in theaters on December 16, 2016. "Doctor Strange," directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, hits theaters on November 4, 2016.
