Mike Mignola’s expansive comic book universe, which kicked off with Hellboy: Seed of Destruction and has grown to include the likes of P.B.R.D. and Lobster Johnson, is about to grow again. Three new Hellboy comics are currently in the works, including a one-shot that pits Hellboy against a satanic Santa and a solo series that follows Koshchei the Deathless.

The first title, Rasputin: Voice of the Dragon, looks to bring Hellboy lore back to the beginning, focusing on the man who would eventually summon the eponymous character to Earth when he was still just an infant. After cheating death numerous times, Rasputin eventually found his way into Hitler’s inner supernatural circle, where he acquired the minds and means to summon a creature he thought would usher in the end times:

A conspiracy involving the Third Reich and a dead member of a sinister secret society sets Professor Bruttenholm on his first mission—to find the man who’d soon bring Hellboy to earth. The mad Russian sorcerer Rasputin had been thought dead since 1916, when a group of noblemen sought to end his influence over the tsar. Now Rasputin works with the most twisted members of Hitler’s inner circle, and he’s about to cross paths with the man who’ll go on to found the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense.

The second title set to come to the Mignolaverse will be a seasonally appropriate yarn that will see Hellboy go up against an evil version of Santa. Wonder Woman and Catwoman artist Adam Hughes will team with Mignola to provide art for the one-shot:

The only thing more exciting than pitting Hellboy against this Satanic spin on Santa is the team-up of Mike Mignola and Adam Hughes.

Koshchei the Deathless rings in the new year with a deeper exploration of the Baba Yaga’s henchman, the immortal Koshchei. The series will explore the terrible deeds Koshchei had to commit to acquire his unnatural fortitude and will see the Hellboy follow the immortal straight into Hell itself:

Sent to kill Hellboy by the Baba Yaga in Darkness Calls, Koshchei the Deathless hinted at a long and tragic life before being enslaved to the Russian witch. Now Koshchei relives every horrible act on his road to immortality and beyond, with none other than Hellboy himself—in Hell. Mignola returns to Hell and to the bizarre folklore that’s filled some of his greatest books, reuniting with one of his favorite collaborators, Ben Stenbeck (Frankenstein Underground, Witchfinder: In The Service of Angels, Baltimore).

Written by Mike Mignola, with art by Ben Stenbeck and coloring by Dave Stewart, Koshchei the Deathless goes on sale January 10, 2018.
