Insight Comics Reveals David Bowie Biography from Mike Allred

Comic book artist/writer Michael "Mike" Allred (X-Statix, iZombie) has joined forces with writer Steve Horton (Satellite Falling, Amala's Blade) and colorist Laura Allred under the Insight Comics banner to produce a biography recounting the life and times of late musical icon David Bowie.

Bowie: Stardust, Rayguns & Moonage Daydreams is slated to arrive in January 2020. According to Insight, this 160-page hardcover graphic novel from the Allreds and Horton "chronicles the rise of Bowie’s career from obscurity to fame; and paralleled by the rise and fall of his alter ego as well as the rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust." Additionally, the book will feature a foreword by Neil Gaiman (The Sandman, Good Omens).

"In life, David Bowie was one of the most magnetic icons of modern pop culture, seducing generations of fans with both his music and his counterculture persona," the biography's synopsis reads. "In death, the cult of Bowie has only intensified. As a musician alone, Bowie’s legacy is remarkable, but his place in the popular imagination is due to so much more than his music. As a visual performer, he defied classification with his psychedelic aesthetics, his larger-than-life image and his way of hovering on the border of the surreal."

Notably, frequent collaborators Mike and Laura Allred -- who worked together on such books as Marvel's X-Statix and Vertigo's iZombie -- have depicted The Thin White Duke in their art before, be it explicitly, or through homages seen in the creator-owned series Madman.

Furthermore, while Horton technically revealed his attachment to Bowie back in late 2017, it appears the project has considerably evolved since then, with the page count having increased and official information finally being made public by Insight.
