Spider-Man 2099 made his exciting debut on the big screen in 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse after a cameo appearance in the first film. Miguel O’Hara led the Spider Society in Across the Spider-Verse and showed he was an imposing threat when he turned on Miles Morales, largely due to his incredible power set that separates him from other variants.

While Miguel O’Hara shares the spider's proportionate strength, speed, and agility as other variants of Spider-Man, he also developed a few physical mutations when he spliced his genetics with spider DNA. Miguel O’Hara’s paralytic fangs, enhanced vision, and razor-sharp talons all contribute to making Spider-Man 2099 one of the darkest Spider-Verse variants.

8 Brilliant Geneticist

Miguel O’Hara’s incredible spider abilities help him operate as Spider-Man 2099, but his greatest asset has always been his incredible intelligence. His brilliant inventiveness grew until he landed his job as the head geneticist at the Alchemax corporation.

Miguel O’Hara’s research focused on genetic splicing as he attempted to create powerful new corporate raiders. When his boss forcibly addicted him to a drug called Rapture in order to blackmail him, O’Hara used his technology to restore his original genetic imprint. However, sabotage added a spider’s genetic code to the matrix, resulting in his dark transformation into Spider-Man 2099.

7 Superhuman Strength

When Miguel O’Hara spliced his DNA to save his life, he gained the proportionate strength of a spider. Peter Parker was similarly empowered when an irradiated spider bit him, and other spider characters also share the enhanced superhuman strength as well. While they aren't the strongest Marvel superheroes around, they can still hold their own in a fight.

Spider-Man 2099 has Class 10+ strength, meaning he can consistently lift over 10 tons. However, he can exponentially increase his strength by training, as the spider’s strength increases proportionately as well. O’Hara can leap over 30 feet in the air and he’s stood up to some of the Spider-Verse’s deadliest threats, though he doesn’t pull his punches as much as Peter Parker.

6 Enhanced Speed & Agility

Much like Peter Parker, Miguel O’Hara also received the proportionate speed and agility as a spider. These abilities gave Miguel O’Hara the incredible flexibility that allowed him to avoid most dangers in his various battles with his greatest supervillains.

However, Miguel O’Hara’s speed is almost unparalleled when compared to other variants of Spider-Man. Due to his enhanced spider DNA, O’Hara can accelerate so fast that he can actually leave behind a speed decoy to confuse his enemies. Since Miguel doesn’t have a spider-sense like other variants, his speed and agility are what keep him a step ahead of his enemies.

5 Enhanced Vision

One of the usual gifts the multiversal variants of Spider-Man all consider their greatest secret weapon is spider-sense, which can warn them of incoming danger. Miguel O’Hara never developed a spider-sense, though his vision and hearing were incredibly enhanced.

Miguel O’Hara’s eyes were physically transformed by the gene splicing accident. He not only developed amazing night vision, but he also had telescopic vision that allowed him to focus on distant objects like a zoom lens. His eyes move quicker than most so he can see attacks coming from afar, though his eyes are so sensitive that he has to wear shaded lenses in his civilian identity.

4 Accelerated Healing

Miguel O’Hara wasn’t lucky enough to receive a powerful healing factor like Wolverine or Deadpool. However, Spider-Man 2099 still has an enhanced metabolism and increased self-healing ability due to his spliced spider physiology.

While O’Hara can’t regenerate lost limbs or recover from otherwise fatal wounds, he can heal much quicker than a normal baseline human. He can heal simple puncture wounds, scrapes, and slashes in a matter of minutes, and he has increased resistance to toxins and poisons. Spider-Man 2099 even ages slower due to his accelerated healing, meaning he’ll live longer than most.

3 Webbing Spinnerets

Peter Parker is also a brilliant inventor like Miguel O’Hara, which helped him create his mechanical web-shooters. However, Miguel O’Hara never had to create his own web-shooters as he grew organic spinnerets in his forearms during his transformation.

This meant that Spider-Man 2099 was one of the few variants that could spin their own organic webbing. The webbing released from the back of his wrists and weakened over time. After one of his villains nearly removed his mask, Spider-Man 2099 started applying his webbing to the inside of his mask before heading into action as an extra safety precaution.

2 Paralytic Fangs

Miguel O’Hara’s physical transformation into Spider-Man 2099 also included an interesting offensive weapon unique to the futuristic variant of Spider-Man. He developed a powerful set of terrifying fangs in the place of his canine incisors.

Spider-Man 2099’s fangs were actually hollow, as they could deliver a paralytic venom with each bite. The non-toxic venom came from a pair of sacs located behind his jaw that could quickly deliver a paralyzing blow on his victims. O’Hara still had to lift up his mask in battle to bite and paralyze his opponent, but his fangs remained one of Spider-Man 2099’s most surprising powers.

1 Razor-Sharp Talons

Wall-crawling is another spider power shared by some of the best Spider-Man variants, though some do it differently than others. Peter Parker can adhere to any surface using his skin, though Miguel O’Hara uses razor-sharp talons on his fingers and toes to climb on surfaces.

Miguel O’Hara’s unique costume used Reed Richards’ adaptable unstable molecules. This meant that his talons wouldn’t tear the suit, even though he could still cling to walls and tear through concrete. O'Hara can retract his talons into his fingertips with extreme concentration, though he had to be careful when shaking hands after his initial transformation.
