The following contains major spoilers for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #100, available now from BOOM! Studios.

Of all the impossible enemies that the Power Rangers have been faced with, the threat posed by the Death Ranger is greater than any that has ever come before. Not only has the Death Ranger raised an army of the undead, but they have also transformed the Omega Rangers into a whole new kind of horror. Thankfully, the latest hero to become the villain's host has finally found a way to fight back, even doing so cost him everything.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #100 (by Ryan Parrott, Moisés Hidalgo, Marco Renna, Raúl Angulo, Walter Baiamonte, Sara Antonellini, Sharon Maron, Francesco Mortarino, Dan Mora, Daniel Di Nicuolo, Eleonora Carlini, Miguel Mercado, Hendry Prasetya, Madison Goyette, and Ed Dukeshire) finds every active Ranger there is gathered together for one final battle against the Death Ranger. When fighting fair proves to be a losing strategy, Andros flings himself through the Morphin Grid with the possessed Red Omega Ranger Jason in tow. There Jason is finally able to confront and defeat the demonic Death Ranger, though not without coming face-to-face with his own demons along the way.

Much like Kimberly Ann Hart, Jason has long struggled with what his identity as a Ranger means, and that is just one insecurity the Death Ranger is happy to exploit. Inside the Morphin Grid, Jason finds himself awash in his own memories, each of which offers its own unique temptation. From spending eternity atop a towering Megazord to reuniting with the mother who died while he was away, Jason discovers every possible reason to give up. Miraculously, Jason still manages to save the day not just by defeating the Death Ranger, but by letting go of both his pain and his power.

As Jason explains to Zack and Trini after the dust has settled, he is no longer in tune with his Red Omega abilities, and possibly the Morphin Grid entirely. Although there is some hope for him to regain that connection, it isn't something Jason seems particularly hopeful of. Of course, Trini is quick to point out that this likely won't be the end for his career as a Ranger, and considering the legacy Jason has left so far, she is probably more right than she realizes.

Jason Lee Scott has been a part of the Power Rangers mythos from the very beginning. As the Red Ranger from the original 1993 television series, Jason was the team's first leader, as well as one of the first to leave. Unlike the BOOM! Studios timeline in which Jason, Trini, and Zack left Earth to become the Omega Rangers, the original series saw the trio genuinely retire. At least, that was the case for the latter two, whereas Jason would eventually return as the Gold Zeo Ranger, which could easily happen all over again.

On the other hand, the Jason of the small screen never had to worry about losing his connection to the Morphin Grid. Between that and the fact that the two versions of the character have taken such wildly different paths, there is no telling what Jason might look like when he returns to action, assuming he does in the first place. Even if he doesn't, however, his victory over both the Death Ranger and his trauma has more than solidified who he is as a Ranger, and as a person.
