The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers Season 1, Episode 8 sees the Don't Bothers on a hot streak, which is good, but also complicated for the underdog team. The episode starts at the end of a game with the score tied 4-4. Bombay is now full-time assistant coaching behind the bench with Alex. The final play of the game sets up Nick, who is nervous, but scores the game-winning goal despite himself.

The team celebrates Nick's first goal and winning the game. After the game, some girls in the stands are paying attention to the Don't Bothers, and Nick thinks they're looking at him, but in reality, they are looking at Logan. At the same time, Nick's moms congratulate Alex on the win with a homemade hashtag t-shirt that says "#PuttingFunFirst." Alex is flattered, and asks for the saying on a mug, which they end up giving her later in the episode.

In the dressing room, Maya comments on how stinky Goob's feet are and he explains that the stink comes from his lucky socks, which he hasn't taken off since their first win in order to keep their luck alive as part of his hockey ritual. The rest of the team, except Maya, agree to leave their socks on without washing them too, to maintain their newfound winning streak. Later in the episode, the team finally convinces Maya to join them, which pays off with a goal for her.

After the rest of the team leaves, Bombay is tidying up the dressing room and finds Logan still there, alone. When he asks him what's wrong, Logan explains that he is the only player on the team who hasn't scored and he feels like a loser. He feels he's not contributing to the team, and he expresses a desire to be liked for being good at something, and not just for having great hair and a killer smiler. Bombay says he'll help Logan find the hockey player within.

Sofi's parents compliment Alex who admits that it feels good to win. Sofi's mom says that Stephanie is threatened by the Don't Bothers and quotes her as saying that the Don't Bothers could become a problem for the Ducks, which thrills Alex. Sofi and Evan meet their parents and note Alex's behavior, which Sofi likens it to that of her parents; something she considers a red flag.

At work, Alex jumps in during a meeting to help save a deal and is encouraged to speak up more which shows that coaching has impacted her confidence away from the rink as well. Bombay and Logan start their extra coaching sessions at the Ice Palace where Bombay starts to develop Logan's basic hockey skills and confidence as well.

They start with skating drills, and while Bombay helps him skate, he asks how Logan has all this top quality hockey gear, but no skills. Logan explains that his parents buy him expensive things since they divorced but don't take the time to show him how to use any of it. As Logan talks, he unconsciously starts to skate, and even though he struggles to stop, he's making great strides in his development.

At the snack bar, Nick and Winnie celebrate Nick's first goal when he notices Bombay training Logan. Nick isn't happy about this because he thinks that Logan already has everything else, and he feels inferior to his teammate. He is jealous of Logan and that jealously distracts him from his own recent success.

At the next practice, Sofi's parents encourage Alex to push the team to qualify for the state championships by training to win their next six games with more intense practices, similar to the Ducks' routine. Later at Evan's house, he and Sofi are playing video games as Alex returns with groceries and shares her plan for healthy eating and superfoods. Alex shares that a reporter wants to interview her for the news because of the success of the Don't Bothers. Evan and Sofi think it should be about the team, but Alex explains it's just an interview for and about her.

The episode then cuts to a montage of the Don't Bothers playing their next games, mixed with Alex's on-camera news interview where she talks about bringing the fun back to hockey for Evan. Bombay starts to notice Alex's change in behavior during this stretch. Even though during the interview Alex says practices are supposed to be fun and not stressful, in reality, she's pushing the team really hard with extra conditioning and being more critical of the team than ever before. By the end of the montage, the Don't Bothers only need one win to make it to the State Championship, and the team has turned against Alex.

While out for pizza, Evan tries to talk to Alex about the team's concerns when Coach T shows up. Alex accuses the Ducks of being worried about the Don't Bothers joining them at States. After Coach T leaves, Evan gets the chance to talk to Alex about her attachment to winning. Alex says it feels good to win, and Evan can see she isn't understanding his point at all.

At the rink, Logan is early for the team's last game and he's making pancakes to thank Bombay for training him. When Logan shows off his pancake flipping skills, Bombay is inspired. Bombay takes Logan out onto the ice to translate his pancake flipping skills, to puck handling skills. Under Bombay's training, Logan learns to do tricks with the puck and a special trick play. Nick feels sorry for himself as he eats Bombay's pancakes.

The winner of the Don't Bothers versus the Huskies will go to the state championship. The Don't Bothers take their socks off, because despite being their lucky charms, they have become too gross to handle any longer. Nick ends up snapping at Logan which leads him to admitting that he's jealous of him. Logan says that he's jealous of Nick in return because Nick's relationship with his moms is much better than Logan's relationship with his parents and all Logan wants is a real family. The confession makes Nick think.

Sofi asks if Evan talked to his mom about the team feeling that the pressure is too high under her new coaching style. Evan says he did, but Alex's behavior during the game indicates she didn't understand what Evan was trying to say. Bombay keeps trying to get Logan into the game for his trick play, but Alex won't even listen to him and refuses to put him in the game.

The Don't Bothers are exhausted when Alex calls a timeout, where she puts even more pressure on the team to win. Nick and Logan switch spots and trick Alex into giving Logan a chance. Evan passes the puck to Logan who does his trick play to score his first goal and the game winner, much to Alex's shock. With the win, the Don't Bothers are going to the state championships.

The team celebrates the win in the dressing room where Koob reveals that he wore his lucky socks in his helmet. Alex walks in and gets mad at the team for not listening to her and her plan, throwing a tantrum and bringing down the team's mood. Sofi says she left the Ducks because of the hostility and the pressure that Alex is now bringing to the Don't Bothers. The episode ends with Evan declaring that he knows the only thing he can do is fire Alex as the team coach.
