WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the entirety of Midnight Mass, streaming now on Netflix.

One of pop culture's most iconic moments over the last decade is without a doubt the Red Wedding from Game of Thrones. Fans of the books knew what to expect, but TV viewers were shocked over what unfolded as Walder Frey sought revenge on House Stark. It took a surprising turn, going from a celebratory wedding to a night draped with the red stain of death. Now, come Netflix's Midnight Mass, the horror's most shocking sequence mirrors what the HBO series did, removing all sense of optimism.

In Game of Thrones' Season 3 episode "The Rains of Castamere," Frey lured Robb and the Stark army over to celebrate Robb's marriage to Talisa. However, Walder was secretly bitter that Robb broke a promise to marry his daughter, and so along with Roose Bolton, they turned on the Starks and began slaughtering their soldiers.

It was all to strengthen the Lannisters after they killed Ned Stark, with arrows, knives, swords and a whole lot of slashing taking place. It was a shocking dynamic set to haunting music which proved to be one of the series' most emotional, status quo-altering scenes.

In Midnight Mass' sixth episode, "Book VI: Act of The Apostles," Father Paul, Bev Keane and their minions want to hold Easter mass to honor Jesus Christ's resurrection, lulling their congregation into a false sense of security. However, it quickly goes dark as Bev locks the doors -- akin to Frey's castle doors being shut dramatically before the massacre -- and Sturge drinks a poisonous substance as Father Paul speaks about being reborn with the gift of eternal life. It's similar to Frey lecturing Robb and Co. before the betrayal -- but in this case, after frothing and dying, Sturge returns to life.

It encourages a mass suicide with numerous townsfolk wanting to ingest the substance, but the kicker is, as Sheriff Hassan tries to leave, the angel/vampire arrives. He oversees Paul and the congregation, basking in the ultimate win as these immortals are clearly being created to go suck blood outside the mainland and spread the angel's 'word.' However, there's no violence until people start getting resurrected and their bloodlust kicks in.

The vampire or angel from Damascus prepares to feed in Netflix's Midnight Mass

Mildred ends up grabbing Hassan's gun when the mob detains the sheriff and shoots Father Paul in the head, causing chaos to break out. The new converts start feeding on the ones who didn't die and resurrect, mimicking the rampage in Frey's castle. People are jumping on each other, tearing innocents apart and biting down on necks in a brutal, bloody scene -- converting some, while killing others.

It's total insanity, but Hassan and a select few slip away from the scene, similarly to the Hound and Arya slipping away from outside Frey's castle in Game of Thrones. The Hound knew they could live to fight another day, but sadly for Hassan's crew in Midnight Mass, they don't have much chance of survival as the island's transport is down. All they can do now is wage war and hope the sun kills their enemies, giving it a more hopeless feel than the GoT escapees.

All seven episodes of Midnight Mass are now available on Netflix.
