The time has finally come for Mickey Mouse to join the Marvel Universe. Sort of. The classic Disney mascot will appear on a variant cover for Marvel Comics #1000, available exclusively at the upcoming D23 convention. Mickey Mouse hefts an 80th anniversary cake on the cover. Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Captain America and a bemused Spider-Man pose beside Mickey.

Marvel Comics #1000 will be given away at the Marvel 80th Anniversary panel, which will take place on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 5:30 - 6:30 pm at Stage 28. Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort will guide the audience through the history of Marvel Comics leading up to the momentous anniversary. The issue features 80 stories by 80 different creative teams and will end by revealing a long-held secret about the Marvel Universe.

“The book ended up as a mystery that segues into a party, and then rotates back to the mystery,” said Marvel Comics #1000 main writer Al Ewing. “As a reader, you're slowly lulled into a false sense of security, almost, and then we end by turning over a final card and showing you something big.”

Marvel has not hinted what that long-held secret might be but judging from the variant cover it’s entirely possible that the whole of the Marvel Universe has existed solely inside Mickey Mouse’s prized snow globe. Right?
