Wrestling legend Mick Foley recently asked WWE boss Vince McMahon to remove Donald Trump from WWE's Hall of Fame. Foley's request arrived on Twitter, in response to recent current events of Trump-supporters rioting at and through the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6."Hey Vince," Foley wrote on Twitter. "How about throwing this sorry son of a bitch out of our Hall of Fame?" Trump was inducted into WWE's Hall of Fame in 2013, which was the same year that wrestler/actor/writer Mick Foley was also inducted into WWE's Hall of Fame.
Foley's request came hours after he reposted a video of injured police officers leaving the riot at the U.S. Capitol building. "This is on you, Mr. President," he captioned his post. "Every single injury today is on you." At the time of this writing, WWE head Vince McMahon has yet to reply on social media nor has the WWE issued a statement in reply.
Donald Trump's relationship with WWE is based primarily on past fiscal and venue support. According to WWE, Donald Trump's The Donald Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, N.J. "hosted both WrestleMania IV and WrestleMania V — the only venue to present The Show of Shows two years in a row." The wrestling site also added that he was a "familiar face" at events.
However, his relationship with WWE, specifically Vince McMahon, isn't without its business complications and fanfare. In January 2007, WWE hosted a "Fan Appreciation Night" on WWE Raw for Vince McMahon. During the event, Trump interrupted it and reportedly "threw out thousands of dollars from the rafters" to WWE fans. This arguably staged event led Trump and McMahon to face-off in a "Battle of the Billionaires" at WrestleMania 23, with the loser of the bouts agreeing to shave their head, as confirmed by WWE.
Trump teamed up with Bobby Lashley and defeated McMahon, leading to the latter shaving his head and a "record number of viewers" tuning in to the event.
In 2016, Trump appointed Vince McMahon's wife and former WWE CEO Linda McMahon as Administrator of the Small Business Administration. In 2019, Linda McMahon would step down from that role to lead the pro-Trump Super PAC America First Action.
