CBS has confirmed that Michelle Yeoh will indeed lead her own Star Trek: Discovery spinoff series as Captain Phillipa Georgiou. The show will focus on Section 31, the black ops division of the Federation. Alex Kurtzman will serve as executive producer, with showrunner roles going to Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt.
"I’m so excited to continue telling these rich Star Trek stories,” Yeoh said in a statement. “Being a part of this universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can’t wait to see where it all goes — certainly I believe it will go ‘where no woman has ever gone before!'"
This will make the fourth Star Trek series for CBS All Access. In addition to the as-yet untitled Picard series and Discovery, there will also be an animated venture called Star Trek: Lower Decks. Yeoh was rumored to have been in talks for her Discovery spinoff since November.
Yeoh's Georgiou debuted in the first episode of Discovery as a mentor to Sonequa Martin Green's Michael Burnham. She was killed off not long after, only to return later in the season via the Mirror Universe. She will return in Season 2, which premieres later this week.
Yeoh's Star Trek series will debut on CBS All Access.
