According to Variety, the Wonderstruck star would play a district attorney, and possibly the love interest of Hardy's Eddie Brock. Reporter Justin Kroll added that Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner), Kylie Bunbury (Pitch) and Kate Mara (Fantastic Four) had also been in contention for the role.

Riz Ahmed (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Night Of) will also appear in director Ruben Fleischer's Venom in an undisclosed role.

Despite Sony and Marvel striking an agreement for Spider-Man to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that Venom will exist outside of that continuity. When asked whether the movie will be canon for the MCU, Feige said, “No, I think they’re focusing on making a great Venom movie, and I don’t know much about it, but I know they’re off to a good start with Tom Hardy.”

Written by Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, Venom is expected to begin filming in late October before swinging into theaters Oct. 5, 2018.
