Michael Rooker has said he'd return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but would want to play a character other than Yondu.

While the MCU is known for its shock character resurrections, Rooker's Yondu was a major casualty of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and one of those rare deaths that have stuck. Gunn previously said he'll never bring Yondu back from the dead and it seems Rooker is completely on board with it.

When asked whether Yondu could return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Rooker told Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, "No way, I'm dead. I'm dead. My character is dead." However, the 65-year-old is open to the idea of popping up in a different capacity: "I would play something else, I wouldn’t mind. I would play something else, but why would I want to play Yondu? Yondu had a wonderful, most amazing sendoff that you would ever want in cinematic Marvel history. My god, dude, why do you want to spoil that by bringing the character back now? I’m with Gunn. There's consequences when you die, you're supposed to stay dead! What the hell you coming back for? Why are they bringing all these schmucks back? Give me a break. Move on, do another movie.”

Rooker pulling double duty on two roles wouldn't be too unusual for the MCU. Alfre Woodard appeared in Luke Cage and Captain America: Civil War, while Gemma Chan suited up as Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel and will star as Sersi in The Eternals. In fact, even Guardians co-star Sean Gunn is known for playing Kraglin and providing Rocket Raccoon's performance capture.
