Michael Douglas, who plays Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, revealed when Ant-Man 3 begins filming.
In an interview with Collider, Douglas announced the third entry in the Ant-Man franchise will begin production in January 2021. This would put it on track to premiere some time in 2022.
Ant-Man 3 was recently announced by Marvel Studios, with Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp director Peyton Reed expected to return. While not officially confirmed, Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly are expected to return as well.
If the film does indeed release in 2022, that sets it in Phase 5. Black Panther 2 will also release that year, with Captain Marvel 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to follow at unannounced dates.
Rumors of Ant-Man 3 have circulated since Ant-Man and the Wasp hit theaters last year. Douglas himself revealed that the film was in early stages back in February at the TCAs: “There's been talk [about another Ant-Man]... [but] there's been nothing formal right now that I know of,” he said at the time. “They always kind of spring it on me. The first time you hear about it, it's already in its third rewrite.”
Aside from appearing in both Ant-Man movies, Douglas had a small role in Avengers: Endgame. He is also expected to voice Hank Pym in Marvel's upcoming Disney+ series What If...?
Ant-Man 3 will reportedly premiere in 2022 and be directed by Peyton Reed. Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly are expected to reprise their roles from the previous films.
