My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission is getting a second chance at Japanese theaters.

As reported by Comic Natalie, the third MHA movie is getting a second run at the Japanese box-office. Deku's international adventure will return to theaters on Jan. 16, the same day that the movie will be released into the region on DVD and Blu-ray. Like the home video release, the movie will now be paired with a brand new anime short, entitled "Departure," which is an adaptation of the No.XXX Hawks: SOOTHE manga that was handed out to theater goers who saw the movie during its original Japanese theatrical run. The new short is centered on the flying pro-hero Hawks, as he runs into Deku, Bakugo and Todoroki at the air port.

The limited engagement of the film gives it a chance to add even more money to it's already impressive box-office gross. World Heroes' Mission was originally released in Japan in August 2021, where it earned the equivalent of nearly $30 million USD during its first theatrical run in the country. Despite being released during a COVID-19 related state of emergency, the movie still managed to earn nearly double what its predecessor, Heroes Rising, earned in 2019. The film was the tenth highest grossing film in Japan in 2021, and managed to pull in an addition $10 million USD during the first two weeks of its release in the United States. The movie is only the 11th anime film in history to make more than $10 million dollars during its American theatrical run, joining the likes of Pokemon: The First Movie and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba - The Movie: Mugen Train.

The movie is set in the middle of the anime's fifth season, and sees the series' central trio of heroes in training on the run from the law after Izuku "Deku" Midoriya is framed for an act of mass murder. The young heroes are forced to leave Japan as they investigate who set Deku up, and consequently meet new heroes from around the world, including Rody Soul, a charismatic con-man with a very unique Quirk. Deku, Bakugo, and Todoroki eventually unite with friends new and old to take on a dangerous cult that wants to stop humanity's use of superpower granting Quirks.
