The following contains major spoilers for My Hero Academia Chapter 362, "Light Fades To Rain" by Horikoshi Kohei, Caleb Cook and John Hunt, available now in English from Viz Media.

If My Hero Academia's Bakugo Katsuki had one defining trait, it would be that he was always ready to give a verbal lashing to anyone in his vicinity at the slightest provocation. However, he had another discreet habit he displayed at almost every appearance that didn't seem to have much significance until recently. In Chapter 362, Bakugo finally revealed the reason his left hand always rested while hidden in his pockets.

Bakugo never kept his admiration for All Might a secret. Since his infancy, he admired the Symbol of Peace for his strength and idolized the fact that he had never lost a fight. All Might's winning streak was so important to Bakugo that he internalized this trait, making it a part of his idea of a hero. As a result, even his personal hero became another stepping stone for Bakugo. It wasn't enough to become the greatest hero of his time; he had to surpass All Might as well.

My Hero Academia Formal Bakugo And Kirishima

Like many young otaku, Bakugo bought Pro-Hero themed trading cards for a chance at gaining one modeled after All Might. He was ecstatic when he finally received one in his youth and showed it off to his friends, declaring that he would one day be like All Might. After the flashback this development was revealed in, Bakugo's trading card was never seen again -- but apparently it was always around, hidden just out of sight.

It's unclear when Bakugo picked up his habit of keeping his left hand pocketed, but it's become so natural in My Hero Academia that this pose almost seems a part of his character design. Whether it was pledging to be Number 1 at the UA Sports Festival, casual walks with Kirishima Eijiro across the campus or even in the middle of school lessons, Bakugo's left hand, at least, was always notably hidden in his pocket. His classmates never questioned it, and may not have received an honest answer if they dared. Before his death, however, Bakugo revealed that it had always been his very first All Might trading card he was clutching in his pocket.

Before he passed on, Bakugo was transported to a realm not unlike One For All's steal plane, where he met and conversed with an All Might vestige. He remarked that he'd always kept the card handy in hopes of scoring an autograph but that his pride -- and the many twists his first year at UA took -- had never allowed him to ask All Might for one. Unfortunately, it seems Bakugo would never get another chance to do so.

My Hero Academia's revelation that Bakugo kept such a significant item on his person at all times adds another layer of depth to his character's infatuation with All Might. Even though he never fully reciprocated All Might's attempts at establishing a teacher-student relationship with him, Bakugo was evidently still enamored with the Symbol of Peace. For someone as reliably aggressive as Bakugo was, this surprisingly wholesome reveal at the point of his death only makes it hit that much harder.
