My Hero Academia is a bona fide fan-favorite series in the world of anime. Such love is not unfounded because it is full of impressive animation, fantastic music, pulse-pounding action and -- most importantly -- a colorful cast of characters. The heroes-in-training from UA High School's Class 1-A each have their adoring fans, but what of the other characters at different hero academies? One minor character has been gaining more attention, a fanbase all of her own, despite only popping up from time to time: Nakagame Tatami.

Nakagame Tatami's Age, Class and Quirk

Nakagame's birthday is January 23, and her current age is 17. She is a third-year student at the Ketsubutsu Academy High School, a hero-training academy known to have an intense rivalry with UA High School. Despite this feud, she has a deep respect for UA's Class 1-A students and their abilities.

Her own Quirk, Telescopic, is particularly interesting. Telescopic allows Nakagame to retract her head, body and limbs, similar to a hiding turtle. Her ability to retract is instantaneous, however, she faces a delay in reforming to her natural state after using her Quirk. Thus, while well-equipped for dodging, her power requires some creative maneuvering in order to become an effective attacking tool.

Nakagame Tatami's Relationships

Nakagame has strong friendships with her classmates. When shown working together during the "Provisional Hero License Exam" arc, the characters made a very effective team. The three students she works with the most are Makabe Shikkui, Toteki Itejiro and Shindo Yo.

Her deepest relationship seems to be with Shindo since, according to My Hero Academia: Ultra Analysis: The Official Character Guide, the two Ketsubutsu Academy students are dating. Nakagame tends to be very honest (maybe even cynical) since she has no trouble finding the faults within her teammates and commenting honestly on their weaknesses. This enables her to be an excellent balancing factor in Shindo's life due to his sneaky nature, where he puts up a constant facade.

Appearances in the Anime and Manga

Nakagame Tatami made her first appearance in Chapter 103 of the manga and Episode 53 of the anime series. When she made her debut, she was cheerful and demonstrated how big of a fan she was for several students of Class 1-A. Though she only appears in a few episodes, she made an impact not only in the story, but also with fans of My Hero Academia.

However, Nakagame does not only receive love and adoration. For every fan fawning over her, there are haters as well. In the series' internet threads and conversations, there have been comments that call her Quirk, and her character, useless. While her ability may not be as outstanding as Deku's ever-growing All For One or as flashy as Bakugo's bombastic Explosion quirk, there is a goofy charm to a hero trainee who has a power that is akin to a hiding turtle. Detractors aside, fans of Nakagame are looking forward to this endearing side character making more appearances.
