The conflict between Shigaraki and Re-Destro shifted My Hero Academia's typical focus from Class 1-A and Izuku Midoriya. By exploring each member of the League of Villains more thoroughly, it demonstrated that both sides were continually getting stronger as the series progresses.

Despite how the arc highlighted and concluded the fifth season of the anime, it was full of glaring flaws, inconsistencies, and things that made no sense. By identifying them, we can better dissect the events of the Paranormal Liberation Front and the many narrative errors behind it.

10 Gigantomachia Was Completely Useless

Gigantomachia angry MHA

Initially, Shigaraki's plan was to lure Gigantomachia toward the Meta Liberation Army and have the two threats face one another. He explicitly told his comrades to not completely destroy the enemy forces so that they might tame All For One's most loyal bodyguard.

Although Gigantomachia eventually breached the city, he didn't actually harm the Meta Liberation Army in any substantial way. Instead, he was only a spectator in Shigaraki's victory over Re-Destro, having never actually been defeated by the villain himself as was originally discussed.

9 Toga Was Absurdly Fast & Defensive Against Curious Considering How Little Training She Had Been Through

Curious had every conceivable advantage over Toga. Not only did her age imply more experience, but she also had prep time and the benefit of henchmen. By using the blood she stole from Uraraka, Toga somehow managed to blitz through Curious' ranks, touching everyone before they had a chance to retaliate. This realistically never should've happened, given that Toga had not trained as tirelessly as Shigaraki, nor did her quirk (stolen or otherwise) contribute to her speed. It was particularly unrealistic since she had already taken substantial injuries before swinging the fight back in her favor.

8 Hawks Was The Only Infiltrator Who Knew About The Meta Liberation Army

Hawks was tasked with spying on the League of Villains and later the Meta Liberation Army. He was considered the sole line of intelligence in keeping hero society informed about what their adversaries were up to.

This was in spite of the fact that Re-Destro recruited so aggressively that he had a hundred thousand members in his organization by the time the fight with Shigaraki erupted. Realistically, there should have been many more infiltrators than Hawks alone given the size of the rebel movement.

7 The Truth About What Happened Between Shigaraki & Re-Destro Never Leaked

The villain Shigaraki awakening a new power in My Hero Academia

Not only were there no spies within the Meta Liberation Army's ranks, but they also somehow managed to fabricate a story about why an entire city had been decimated without contention. Despite a massive number of witnesses, there were no counter-testimonies about who was actually involved in the conflict or what became of it.

It should have been particularly suspicious given that Shigaraki's "Decay" was responsible for much of the property damage that occurred. Although Re-Destro's position as the president of Detnerat may suggest partial control of the media, it realistically couldn't have covered up the League's involvement completely.

6 Re-Destro Contacted The League In A Way Hero Society Easily Could Have

Despite kidnapping Kagero, Re-Destro failed to get any information from him. Instead, he contacted the League by telephone and used a satellite to track down their location.

Although this tactic was successful, it was one that typical heroes easily could have thought of, especially when brilliant minds like Nezu and Mei Hatsume worked together. Realistically, the League should have hung up immediately after realizing Re-Destro's intentions and avoided his ultimatum altogether.

5 Twice Didn't Create Hundreds Of Shigarakis To Overwhelm Re-Destro

Twice created a copy of the League of Villains in order to breach Re-Destro's tower and save Kagero. However, only a small party was intended to defeat the Detnerat CEO when a significantly larger one could have been substituted instead.

If Twice concentrated his efforts on duplicating Shigaraki instead of the League's weaker members, like Mr. Compress and Spinner, it's likely that Re-Destro would have been defeated before he ever had a chance to access the full potential of his quirk or formidable stress armor. It would have been especially effective since the villains didn't originally intend to take him alive.

4 No One In The Meta Liberation Army Thought To Contact The Heroes When They Began To Lose

Twice creates infinite doubles of himself in My Hero Academia anime

The battle between the League and Meta Liberation Army took a turn in the former's favor after Twice fully unleashed his quirk. He began to make so many doubles that Shigaraki had to tell his comrades to hold back in order to give Gigantomachia a sufficient challenge.

Considering that the Meta Liberation Army numbers over a hundred thousand, it doesn't make sense that not a single one of them considered asking Japan's heroes for help. It may have gone against their principles, but it would have been tempting for a less radicalized member to consider.

3 Re-Destro Didn't Rip Off Shigaraki's Arms When He Had The Chance

After activating his quirk, Re-Destro became the size of a giant and seized Shigaraki by his palms. Given that he was strong enough to smash through entire skyscrapers, he had a perfect opportunity to rip off his opponent's arms and effectively win the fight.

Despite having no intention of letting Shigaraki live, Re-Destro only crushed his hands instead. This glaring oversight doesn't make much sense when considering that Re-Destro is supposed to have high intelligence.

2 Re-Destro Gave Shigaraki Complete Control Over The Meta Liberation Army

Shigaraki defeats Re-Destro

At the conclusion of the arc, Shigaraki defeated Re-Destro by unlocking the full potential of his quirk. Re-Destro claimed that his opponent was truly unburdened by concepts like lineage and sentimentality, compelling him to surrender the Meta Liberation Army into the League of Villains' hands.

However, Re-Destro's decision didn't make sense because Shigaraki's goals didn't even remotely align with his own. His desire to "do what he wanted" was so vague that it could include murdering people with powers that could challenge his own, just as All For One did.

1 Virtually The Entire Meta Liberation Army Accepted Shigaraki As Their Leader Instantly

League of Villains standing above MHA

Similar to how Re-Destro shouldn't have been willing to surrender his entire organization, its members shouldn't have accepted Shigaraki so willingly. Not only were his goals only vaguely related to the Meta Liberation Army's mission statement, but he also murdered hundreds of them only days before.

Considering that the Meta Liberation Army's objective was to empower people with the freedom to use their quirks, they shouldn't have been so open-minded to their new management. After all, Shigaraki's master oppressed Japanese society for years until All Might ended his reign.
