Quirks define the My Hero Academia universe's combat system, and over 80% of the world's population was born with these supernatural powers. Some Quirks are ideal for superhero work, and youngsters with good Quirks are accepted into superhero schools, such as U.A. or its rivals, such as Shiketsu or Seiai.
Mina Ashido is a student in U.A.'s Class 1-A, and her Quirk is called Acid. True to its name, Acid allows Mina to generate powerful and corrosive acid from her hands and feet. That acid can dissolve a villain's equipment, weapons, and armor or break down the ropes or chains that are restraining hostages. Mina can also slide around on her acid streaks for mobility, showing how useful this Quirk is. But some Quirks are even stronger.
10 STRONGER: Dark Shadow, Fumikage's Quirk
Fumikage Tokoyami is a raven-headed boy whose Quirk, Dark Shadow, is a complex one. Dark Shadow gets stronger in the shadows or at night, and it's weakened by intense light. It can also think and speak for itself, meaning it and Fumikage are more like teammates than master and tool.
Dark Shadow backs all this up with the remarkable speed and hitting power, and it can deliver blunt physical damage or slash its enemies with its talons. With its hitting power, agility, and affinity for the dark, Dark Shadow is stronger than Acid.
9 WEAKER: Anivoice, Koji's Quirk
One of the meeker students in class 1-A is a large but gentle boy named Koji Koda, and he gets along better with squirrels, birds, and deer than his fellow students (not that he dislikes his classmates). Koji can use his voice to speak to animals and give them commands.
This Quirk is useful in a forest or similar setting, but in a city, it's really only going to call upon pigeons and rats, and it takes time to assemble those animals. By contrast, Mina's Quirk can be used anywhere, and it can take effect right away. And Koji can't match Mina's mobility enhancement, either.
8 STRONGER: Fierce Wings, Hawks' Quirk
The pro hero known as Hawks is a rising star in the hero world, and despite his youth, he made it to the #2 slot among all pro heroes, behind only the fierce Endeavor himself. Hawks' Quirk is Fierce Wings, meaning he has angelic wings growing out of his back.
With those wings, Hawks can truly take flight, and his speed and agility are astonishing. Hawks can also create giant feather swords and control hundreds of feathers remotely to move people or objects around (and coordinate them all with ease).
7 WEAKER: Big Fist, Itsuka's Quirk
Itsuka Kendo is the rep of class 1-B, and she is well known for being the "big sister" type. She is also a dedicated melee hero, having a tough personality to match her strength. And all her power is focused on her hand, with that Big Fist Quirk of hers.
Itsuka can hold up large objects, fan away poison gas, or punch barriers with this Quirk, and that's not bad. But Mina can dissolve her targets from far and move with far more agility and speed than Itsuka can. Acid is more flexible than giant fists.
6 STRONGER: Whirlwind, Inasa's Quirk
Inasa Yoarashi is a student at Shiketsu, and he's among the best first-year students there. His Quirk is Whirlwind, and it grants him roughly similar abilities to Hawks' Fierce Wings. Inasa is weaker than Hawks, but he is still quite impressive.
Inasa's Quirk can create powerful air gales, and Inasa can finely control hundreds of air currents at once. With that Quirk, Inasa can levitate many people or objects at once, fly into the air, or toss his enemies aside and smash them into hard surfaces. Now that's impressive.
5 WEAKER: Telescopic, Tatami's Quirk
Ketsubutsu is another major heroics school in Japan, and that's the school where Ms. Joke, the laughing hero, teaches. One of her students is Tatami Nakagame, who can retract her arms and legs into her body in the blink of an eye. She can even retract her upper torso into her waist.
This Quirk seems rather defensive in nature since it can get Tatami's arms and legs out of harm's way on demand. But it takes longer for Tatami to extend her limbs again, so it's not like she can shoot her arms and legs out at high speed to deliver quick melee attacks. Acid is much stronger than this Quirk.
4 STRONGER: Meatball, Seiji's Quirk
Seiji Shishikura is a student at Shiketsu, like Inasa, but his Quirk is rather different. Seiji's Meatball Quirk allows him to mold and reshapes his flesh at will, and he can fling pieces of it all over the place, so he can attack at range and outmaneuver his enemies. He's adept at taking his foes by surprise.
Once a meatball touches an enemy, Seiji can squish that person into a helpless meatball, unable to move or use their Quirk. On the defensive, Seiji can create meat barriers that can even withstand attacks from Katsuki Bakugo.
3 WEAKER: Tail, Mashirao's Quirk
Mashirao Ojiro is one of several melee-oriented students in class 1-A and Izuku Midoriya and Rikido Sato. Mashirao has the Quirk called Tail, a mutant-type Quirk that grants him a strong, prehensile tail like a monkey's.
This fifth limb gives Mashirao an obvious advantage in regular melee combat, and he can swing around on that tail, too. Overall, though, Mashirao's combat performance pales next to most other U.A. students, and Mina's acid is far more effective in most situations.
2 STRONGER: Explosion, Katsuki's Quirk
Katsuki Bakugo is explosive in more ways than one. He has an aggressive, competitive attitude and a surprisingly sharp tactical mind to keep pace with the enemy's plans. Most of all, Bakugo has a notoriously powerful Quirk: Explosion.
Bakugo sweats nitroglycerin, and he sets it off with sparks from his palms. The resulting explosions are powerful indeed, and as Bakugo keeps fighting, he sweats, even more, fueling his Quirk further. As a bonus, Bakugo can propel himself through the air when he points his hands behind him and sets off smaller explosions.
1 WEAKER: Navel Laser, Yuga's Quirk
Overall, Yuga Aoyama is among the least powerful students in class 1-A, but his Quirk is still fairly effective for fire support. Yuga has to be careful, though, since his Quirk is poorly suited to fighting one on one, and overusing it will give him stomach troubles.
Yuga's light beam delivers concussive blows to the enemy, rather than emitting fire or electricity. If a teammate can pin the enemy down or keep them distracted, Yuga can strike that foe with his laser. As a whole, though, Acid is more powerful, and it doesn't rely so heavily on teammates.
